Strike Fighters Command Line TCP/IP work around

Post by Softball »

I will cut and paste this here from a post at SIMHQ. Maybe this will work without having to run Gamespy? Not sure how you set a password, maybe from within the game? A password will certainly help/be needed, due to the game showing up on Gamespy regardless of the command line settings.

TCP/IP COMMAND LINE WORKAROUND:

<QUOTE>

Ok, I've deciphered the command line (mostly) so you can direct connect. Here's the command lines for hosting and joining:
Joining a multiplayer game:
---------------------------
-join:0.0.0.0 "-n:<player_name>" -gamespy

Hosting a dogfight
-------------------
-host "-n:<player_name>" -g:0 -m:8 "-s:<game_name>"-gamespy

Hosting a coop
---------------
-host "-n:<player_name>" -g:1 -m:8 "-s:<game_name>"-gamespy

Notes:
------
- Replace 0.0.0.0 with the IP address of the game to join.
- Replace <player_name> with your name
- Replace <game_name> with the name of the game
- The -g:x option is either 0 (zero) for dogfight, or (1) for coop
- The -m:x option is 1 through 16, number of players in the game
- There is a -gamespy option, but I have no idea what it does

Issues:
No matter what, when you host it will still show up in Gamespy. I haven't figured out how to turn this off with the command line, there is the -gamespy option, but even if you don't specify it the game still shows up. My guess is that you should make the game private with no password (or with a password and that might work). I'll post more as I find out later.

You've got 30 days from purchase date at EB... If it approaches that and no direct TCP/IP is on the horizon, I would take it back. You can always buy it again later if they fix the issues and actually complete the game development properly (instead of early release), likely at a lower price. Unfortunately, I am not sure what is newly released that you would want. You might be able to use the credit for purchase of CFS3. I am not so sure I would buy the Precision Strike Fighter if it is the redone package by Xicat - lots of bad news on that one...(I might be off on that, might not be the same game).

OK what was the Walmart fiasco??? Also I was looking into buying Xicats precision strike fighter, but since steel has mentioned that little point and since I've been to the sight several times and there isn't any detailed info that could persuade SIMMERS otherwise to buy it I think I am going to back off of that purchase, Steel what has been said about Xicats F-18PSF.

Xicat/Graphsim Precision Strike Fighter:

http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/reviews/psf/

now if it is equitable to the game several folks have mentioned, the maybe it would be o.k., but the versions may be incompatible for MP.

if everyone that wants to play it can agree on a version that would probably help y'all out. you might be able to find an older copy of the game foe less than thw "new" rip-off version...

Anyone know if the original is available for dirt? What is the newer release down to in price?

Raptor,
How does the newer release compare to the original? What, if anything is better about it? How about mods/add-ons?
