Sounds like having Outlook open while you locked up/rebooted corrupted your mail file...
Try running the inbox repair tool against it. This tool should be in:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\SYSTEM\1033\95\scanpst.exe
If you do not have a similar directory structure, do a find files on your pc and look for scanpst.exe. The run it and select your .pst file. You will need to know where this is. If you do not, do the same thing - run a find files and look for *.pst files. If you have more than one and do not know which you are using, you can run the tool agaianst all of them or try right clicking on properties of your Outlook icon and find where your personal folders file is located.
Not sure if I would listen to that Raptor guy - he has enough problems on his pc!
