Here is the scenario. Wiz and I are trying to install the packs on Beowulfs PC. He has a 1gb AMD, 256 RAM and a GeForce 2 card.
We clean installed MW4, plays, works ok. clean installed BK, plays, works ok. Install the IS pack. It runs through and installs then puts up an error message stating that it can't update because MW4 is not installed! Looking in the MW folder shows the components of the pack are there but running the game does not show it installed! It does this if we install the IS or the Clan packs! We have run out of ideas now. Any help guys?

thats pretty weird!.. could it be something to do with different versions? does software released in the US use the same code as stuff released in the UK and europe? Maybe its having a language problem? just a thought, although i wouldnt know how you could find that out for sure. :-?

Make sure you have a hidden directory C_DILLA in your root.
I deleted it once, thinking it was virus-related, and it totally mucked up my install.
Although, from the way you're describing it, you did install from clean, so this probably isn't it... Still, I thought I'd make sure.

What version of windoz is he using, 95, 98, etc? it sorta sounds like the installer isnt updating the registry like it should, is he running his anti-virus software will doing the install.. sometime antivirus stuff can cause funky things to happen, and MS recommends that u turn off virus protection software when doing installs.

98SE is the OS. We went down the registry route but could find no reason why. So far it has had about 5.5 hours in effort.

Sent an email to microsoft tech support about our problem here, and have finally heard back. They suggest uninstalling everything, then install MW4 only, then try the IS expansion pak. to see if that works. However, after reading the thread from Buffs post. I would at this point suggest installing mw4, bk then installing the patch that allows you to play on servers when you dont actually have the expansion paks yet. then install the is pak over that. I run a 2k machine myself and the cdilla service was already set to auto start, but i never enabled it, which leads me to think that the temporary patch that MS put so ppl could all play on the same servers even though they dont have the expansions sets autoenables cdilla as a service. Course if u know where or how 98se enables services you could probably make the change there.

Is Anyone here having a problem with the new patches ?? Please let me know and I will write a Strong Letter to Micro Soft and Explain to them that this isn't working out :-) And just think..... Mech Mercenaries coming out this fall is also distributed by MS. "How Bout That." Good thing were all dedicated Mech Warriors
BTW.. MS doesn't offer support or updates for Windows 98 on the web these days anymore. Could it be be that they just want us to upgrade ?

Stache, spoke to Lancer tonight who said problem is now sorted. Lancer suspected a boot virus so he had to change the HD to NTFS so it would wipe the boot sector also. Seems to have worked.
Does that sound right, cos it all sounds dutch to me??

Well virii (viruses???)
can do weird things. Was he having other issues? One thing though, changing from one format to another should not affect the boot sector... It is a seperate area of the hard drive. you can, for instance, use the DOS (and Win9x) command format /mbr and rewrite the boot sector of a hard drive and still boot to NTFS or even UNIX. More likely it was a corruption in the FAT on the old file system - which could still be/have been caused by a virus. I would run a virus scan ASAP on that drive...

The prolem is solved as Glas said above. After trying basically anything and everything, including witchcraft, it took the installation of XP as the OS and changing the HD over to NTFS. Drastic I know but we tried it all for no joy. The odd part, and the reason the virus idea started, was it would all work fine until a certain level of installations was reached and then it would all start to fall apart. Could have been corrupt FAT's, boot sectors, virus or sun spot activity for all we could figure in the end though. It was a bizarre one!
Thanks to all that gave assistance.

Well I still think it was MS Manufactured and Implanted . They are pushing their new computer technicians into making your computer system Cry Havoc ! , until you get the latest OS system update. But the Witch Craft thingy was a nice touch :-P heh..... Glad you got it.
