I need help. MW4 Vengeance and BK won't work and neither did Mercs, a error message saying "Cannot open DirectSound dII" Keeps poping up. I tried to reinstall MW4 and BK but with no luck. Also when I try to use TS an error message comes up saying "Access violation 000000" Or something like that. I am pretty sure my Yamaha DS-GX Souncard is not compatable, but I cannot find a help file or readme for my SC. I also need to upgrade my PII 350 and probably the motherboard as well.
I have no clue what my motherboard is.

Venom,
I thought that is what you said you tried after I told you to do so... Or maybe you just tried reinstalling directx?
Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/ and follow the links (should be on left side) to Windows Update and go through that process... If you have never done it there could be quite a lot to download and install. Some things may require downloading and installing seperately from the rest. If it does not give you the option to update DirectX, then it thinks you have the most current version.
If that is so, do to downloads and do a search for DirectX 8, download and install that.
See if that helps. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for all of your stuff, especially the sound card.

I have reinstalled Direct X, reinstalled the drivers from my SC off the SC CD-ROM that came with it. Whenever I try to play MW4 Vengeance or BK It will bring up the Menu that Says "Play, uninstall, etc." I click play the pick of the Uziel comes up while the game is loading then an error message saying cannot load "DirectSound dll" comes up. When I try to use TS 1.5 an access violation thing comes up saying access violation at address 0000000, and then read of address at FFFFFFFF. What does that mean?
I click okay then when I try to join the server and application error comes up saying access error and this application must be shut down.
Then I click okay and before I can shut down TS the application error comes up again, I click okay, Then I turn off TS. I can not even listen to CD's on my computer. I am confused and really mad.

Venom,
Try another Sound Card. I use Turtle Beach Sound Card with an ATI Video card to back it up. I’m also using Win 98 and have had no problem with it as long as I don’t update. Seems MS likes to implant bugs to my OS to make it buggy and encourage me to by the latest OS. Anyway , if you have installed your OS again and started form scratch AND are still having problems…. Try another sound card. Unless you would like to reformat and really start from scratch. This usually cures all problems.
Lots of junk builds up over a period of time on your hard drive. Cookies are being placed on your Hard drive every time you surf. Cookies include many things including viruses and spy ware , even e-mail cracks to spy on your e-mails being sent. Believe me , I’ve had it done to me before with Yahoo mail and it sucked. I’m only saying this because it seems like you have done your homework and tried just about everything to fix this problem , and I know It sucks not getting on line and piloting that fancy Mech of yours.
In closing … if you have a sound problem with Mech Warrior and have tried all of the above,.. It’s time to start getting drastic and either buy a new sound card or try reformatting and start from scratch. If you reformat , don’t feel bad about doing it. Plenty of us here has had to resort to just that more then once. Me.. I guess I’m going for some kind of record here. Heading on into the 20 range and I’m sure It’s not over yet. That’s why I have a few Hard Drives to back me up for when China decides to send over even more Viruses are way. Good Luck , I’m sure you’ll get up and running soon man. See you on the Battle Field.

Well if the old drivers were weorking fine before and all of a sudden aren't any more, I'd say getting new drivers may not help either. Worth a try tho . I believe that some older sound card driver are not compatable with Direct X 8.1
Another thing to try is to go into Device Manager and remover the Device from there. ( My Computer>>right click >> properties then find Device Manager ) Sometimes this will help by seting up the card all over again ... >>> something a fresh windows install wont do if you chose to save your old Systems folder.
