I tried to reinstall windows, but a message came up that said I had to turn off my antivirus program, restart then try installing windows again.
I have Nortan Antivirus. I turned it off I think. Couldn't reinstall windows. I uninstalled Norton, couldn't reinstall. I have windows 98. not SE or XP just windows 98. I cannot reinstall it.

I know most people dont like to do this but, u mite wanna just reformat the hard drive and start fresh. make backups first of anything that u wanna keep, or transfer them to another computer so that they dont get erased. Alot of time a clean reinstall from a freshly formatted hard drive can solve alot of weird problems that the computer is experiencing.
But then again it depends on your comfort level with doing something like that.

i know ive had problems when i enabled boot sector protection in the CMOS. its supposed to give you a warning when ever a program is trying to write something to the boot sector. might be worth checking.
