Hey Rap
Send me some useful links for Airsoft. I'm interested in a new toy, so I want to find out what's out there and how much.
Could you also include some performance figures as guidance to what I should be looking for, and any personal choices you have of your own.
Thanx, Don

Problem is you are in Canada... It is tough to get the Airsoft guns into Canada...
This is where I buy from if I have time and am getting a few things. You will find that even if you get it express the price is still less than any US Seller. Plsu Eddie is a nice and helpful guy.

Here is a Canadian Airsoft site where they can probably tell you about getting guns into canada and where to buy from for that.

That should be enough to get you started...

I have not received it yet, it should be here by Friday. I am getting the M-16A2, magazine, and battery. That's it as far as I know.
Thanks for the links, they will be very helpful.

Thanx again for the info Steel. The weapons coming and going from Canada should be nothing more than a formality for me - we deal with this sort of thing all the time with real weapons, so we'll have someone here with all the info I could possibly need, not to mention all the forms I'll need to get filled out and authorised!
And given my background there will be minimal fuss when crossing the border. The big trick to all this sorrt of thing is to let the people know your intention to cross at a particular point in advance, do a little liaison work prior to the journey. It all pays off, cause when you arrive at the border and announce your identity and provide a reference number and point of contact and authorisation...eh, voila! Everyone is happy and you go on your merry way - USUALLY!
Anyway, we will see. Before I buy anything I'll make sure there are no problems with all that stuff.

Okay, having done a little research and looking at what is available, I would say the weapons of choice for standard play would be the M16 or probably more likely the M4A1 with the optional add-ons of personal choice. A scope is probably a must-have item and one would do well to find the funds for a "grenade launcher" although I'm not too sure of them just yet!
What say Ye of this new superb looking and somewhat of a bargain known as the G36-C? It appears to be all the rage and the price tag is very reasonable looking. Or is it perhaps more of a CQB weapon? And what about us - are we a CQB unit or do we do the field force thing only?

Hi
If you like the M-4 you might should concider the Marui Knights SR16
My Friend got one and he recomends it,
THe problem with the M4A1 is the battery size, in the SR16 you have a place for a large battery
but i have to agree the M4A1 looks cooler
The G-36C looks great also

You do NOT need a scope unless you are absolutely blind or are concerned with looks... Airsoft guns do not shoot anywhere near far enough to warrant a scope. They are also far to innacurate to have a consistent group as in real steel. The most you can probably hope for is 2-3" at 50 ft.
The actual gun makes very little difference, it is a looks thing only. Of course some of the longer guns are more difficult to use in a CQB environment... The other deciding factor is barrel length (internal - the one the BB goes through when shot, not the outside shell) and battery size. As indicated by Hades, a larger battery gives longer play duration without having to put a new one in. A large battery should last you all day, as long as you do not act like a CS'er on unlimited ammo.
One thing I like are the guns with newer versions of the gearbox. These are later revs, designed a bit better, etc. I would get a gun with a version 2 or 3 gearbox (I prefer version 3).
Also, almost EVERYONE has a type of M16/M4. So it depends upon whether or not you want to be a bit different than everyone else...

Thanx for the new links - I was quite impressed by the M4 RIS review and the only thing missing is the price so I will have to go look at that. The G36-C still LOOKS very nice too and the price is certainly attractive - add-ons may be limited at the mo, but that may be half the fun; to modify existing kit to fit on there. I'm already looking at the possibility of making a mod plate to fit our night-sights onto various models. Just one of the perks of fixing the damn things I guess

Hmmmmm... MP5?! In CQB the damn things are so deadly it's scary!
In real life situation a total recommendation, the SP6 in particular. And the only thing you hear is like a kid blowing a raspberry and the sound of empty casings hitting the floor. Awesome - oh, and please don't forget to take your finger off the trigger - empty magazines come up thick and fast if you don't pay attention.

Yeah! The UMP is designed as a STOPPER weapon, hence the .45 calibre so there is naturally a little more kick, less control, and control is everything in the CQB arena. I've been the hostage in the kill-house, and let's just say if you stuck your tongue out it would probably get shot off! It IS quite a rush being in that chair and they enter the room and start spreading the good news about. So if the opportunity ever arises I would recommend it just for the experience.

Thanks for your answers Raptor,
You guys seems to have alot of experience in CQB i havent tried it myself but i hope i will get some education in urban warfare. most units get some training in it but i belong to a signal regiment so that is not a high priority
We have special urban infantry units and if i understand it right they were considering to change to Mp-5 instead of the AK-5 D the short version

I don't know about raptor, but my own experience is very limited - the subject DOES interesdt me though and i get plenty of info from a variety of sources. When we did CQB trg I was all ears as they say sucked it up and had a lot of fun doing it - but I have to say these days I must be very rusty
