Imagine that.............
Well something is very wrong with my Box....er POS PC.
Every game I try crashes me to a blue screen or desktop. I get the same error each time. its a driver error and yes I have updated my drivers till I am blue in the face and the damn thing still dumps. So until I back up 80 gigs of shit on my HD's and find the courage to wipe the HD's clean, I wont be able to do much gameing wise. It's that or I get the 12 gage and blow some Copper #8's thru it and start over.

Instead of breaking out the old 12 guage, why not try a nice friendly dual-boot system, with the Windows and Linux varieties of your choice? I've been running a triple-boot system for over a year now - Windows ME (now XP), Mandrake Linux 8.1 (now 9.0), and Lycoris Desktop/LX.
Mandrake Linux is the OS I use the most - it has pretty much everything I need in an OS. I generally only boot up Windows when I want to play Windows games. Lycoris is nice, and quite Window-user-friendly, but it's pretty much redundant (it's another flavor of Linux, designed for people who've never used anything but Windows).

Gosh, I guess I don't feel quite the poor cousin after all.
I've been running Win98SE on the same format since before BK came out. I just stick with it cuz somebody told me it was the best OS for gaming. It's definitly the best for avoiding formats it seems. Good luck guys, sorry to hear it.

Buff, are you sure your "blue screen" isn't your reflection?

i had that problem some time ago.. what i found out when i searched the web about it was something called ghoast drivers... i guess you got to go into save mode and you might notice that some drivers are installed twice. i did it and found it so and deleted the offending drivers in safe mode and rebooted and reinstalled and it worked again for me. might give it a shot? if its not that then its not a problem i had. except beta drivers from nvidia
lucky they got new ones so it fixed it hehe

Not really in the same league as the boys above but on Monday morning I awoke to find my cd-rom had died quietly in the night then Ravenshield decided to crash and burn requiring a complete reinstall. This then led to hours of fun with re-registering the thing. I love it (heavy sarcasm) when I get the old "password is already in use or taken" gag. I use a combination of my initials and my 8 digit army number as a pw so the possibility of someone else having it is, to say the least, remote. Around the fifth attempt I started to empathise with Doc and his hammer throwing!

Sux Don't it , I've had Probs with my PC for the last few weeks now. But Now ( after several hours of diagnostics and a new Win XP install ) , I got my Sound fixed but , I have yet to figure out why my Monitor wont go in to 1024 X 768 with out the slack on the side. Slack ? Aye, That’s What I said too. That’s when you can view your full deck top by only moving your mouse around. This is new to me man. I can scrool my mouse up and down <> side to side to finally pick up my full desk top in 1024 768. works okay in 800 X 600 tho. This all started when I uninstalled Outlook Express in my win 98. Now that I have XP installed and have went through my Video settings and all ,.. ( to the max ) I’m stumped . And Me and My bro have pulled out the books to try and find out WHY it's doing this. Whelp. One thing left to do it start from scratch (aka Format )
Can you say Bummer : /

A nifty little trick if you're having driver problems.
Boot the PC up in safemode. Open up device manager (right click on my computer and select properties etc).
Click on the + sign by each device and you will see on alot of the devices mutliple items listed. These multiples are where you have installed new drivers without removing previous drivers properly or have just installed over the top and the previous drivers or parts of them remain. Now where you have multiple drivers showing open each in turn and check it's file details and then delete all but the most upto date of each driver (or alternatively just delete them all). Once you have completed this reboot the PC.
Before doing this it's a good idea to first boot it up in safe mode and list each device that has multiple drivers and then prepare a disc with just the most recent driver required for each. You can then just delete them all reboot the PC and when it asks install off the disc the most recent driver. (win98se will in most cases find the most recent driver itself and reload it).
After multiple reboots later viola, a complete set of upto date drivers are residing on your system and all the old ones or bits of them removed.
