We had another one last night at 10 pm EST. Whee! Fortunately, the storm fizzled out almost the very instant the nice folks downtown let off the emergency sirens. Those things are always so much fun to hear.

In other news, I mowed the entire yard today. Woo hoo!

I'm down here in Tulsa, so I've seen a few of them myself.
In my life time I've been within a mile of over a dozen of them, and one even hit me as I was headin to the neighbors cellar. I don't know if I got storm watchin outta my system, or priorities have changed with fatherhood. I watch the tube till it gets close enough, then split my time between watchin TV and the girls. Weather technology has really come a long ways since the old B/W days when you watched radar and didn't know there had been one till you read the paper. TV stations can show a resolution now, down to a 100 yards or so.
I'll tell you one thing, I'll take a tornado over a hurricane any day. Did I mention I've been through 2 of those? LOL Yup, I'm a storm magnet. Last one came in while I was movin from Florida back home. It hit the coast E. of New Orleans and I drove through it clear till Shreveport. The knowing it was coming and the waiting is what got to me, and there was the one that hooked a turn and hit further back the coast. That was a lot of worry over nuttin.
I ain't been out west so I don't know if I can do it with earthquakes yet. But, I'd probably still rather live with twisters.

As it turns out there actually was a tornado of sorts nearby, but the weather people called it something else. A 'landspout' or something like that.

Heh, I don't mind the false alarms, I'm just bummed about the dang weather. Usually by this time of year, all the big storms have come and gone from here. Not this year! We've got a chance for more (probably not so bad) storms throughout the weekend.

I've been in some bad storms, never a real tornado, though, but the scariest thing that ever happened around here (and the sirens sounded then, too) was when a train car carrying some sort of chemicals derailed at the nearby train station. People were warned to *stay inside* until the situation was cleared up. Some people were actually evactuated from their homes. Ack!

Come to think of it, there was yard mowing involved that day, too. I'd stopped the mower for some reason, and that's when I heard the sirens.

Damn grass. Sometimes I think I should invest in some nice astroturf...

Um , I’ve been here in Southern California all my life , I came across some of them trembling tormenters in my time . There not as frequent these day as I remember them to be. Back in the day they gave out a good jolt more often. Usually I would be waking up in the middle of the night with a good shaker. It all starts when I could feel some thundering that would first begin from deep underneath the ground. It grew louder and rumbled more violently as it made it’s way toward the surface . Ya wake up ! , wondering,.. What the Hell is going on , when your bed starts moving back and forth sliding from front to back. Your furniture in the room is all shaking. It’s Poltergeist !! No Wait ! It’s An Earthquake ! Lets Bail ! So I hastily jumped out of bed and started throwing on some clothing with one thing in mind ,.. GET OUT !

However , as usual they don’t last that long. There not all the same either . Some shake from side to side or front to back. Best One I was in is where I was a mere 5 miles from the epicenter. The quake was a good 4.6 and I was in a tire where house looking up in aw at the tall stacks of tires swaying heavily back and froth waiting for the building to loose it’s integrity and start to crumble. When I thought I’d waited long enough , I tuned back in to my coworker yelling at me from the front door saying Ca Mon ! ! That was some shit.


Haven’t had the pleasure of seeing a Tornado or Hurricane yet. I imagine that would be a well remembered moment in time.
