Anybody played GR2 or Republic Commando? If so, how are they?

I saw the Rebuplic Commando at CompUSA this past weekend. I would have picked it up except I was scrambling around picking up parts for my new PC build.
Just incase your interested:
AMD64 3500+
Asus A8N SLI mobo
1 gig Corsair PC3200XLPRO RAM
Asus Geforce 6800 256mb vid card
150 gig SATA HDD
550 watt PSU
6 freaking case fans (with the blue lights of course)
Round IDE and Floppy Cables
temps run around 28-30C at rest and 38-40C under load. so all those fans help. My frame rates went from about 20 FPS in Pacific Fighters to around 63 FPS now so that is a huge improvement. yes Sir Death hooked me up again =)

the 6800 is an awsome card, i picked one up awhile ago. i got the GT version. its not the top of the line one but just under it. damn thing is great. on planetside where i usualy was getting around 15-40 FPS depending on how many bullets were flying, to now on average 60-120.
i know the damn things are spendy but if your into newer games that are comen out and high FPS with all the eye candy, the 6800 is a good choice IMHO.
Congrats on the upgrade buff!

Ok, Silent Hunter 3 is very, very good. I have been playing it non stop for a week. You take your Unterseeboot....aka U-boat out and try to strangle teh UK but sinking every cargo ship you see =)
The effects and eye candy are stunning. The water (at times big assed water....like Perfect Storm type water) is so good, you almost feel wet after time on the bridge deck.
Very much recommend this title. 1 drawback is it has Starforce copy protection on it. It makes Cdilla look tame. So far no problems but, I am watching it closely.

yea veg, thats the exact reason why i didnt go for the 64 as well, just hit the market and was waiting for the typical bugs that might occure. however it does seem that AMD has been on top of getting stuff out without many bugs. its just the new chipsets you got to keep an eye on. i just recently got the 3200+ AMD barton with 400 FSB and thats it for a few years for me i think... so far its screaming along nicely. i might be thinking about better quality ram though. i get buggy after awhile. although maybe some ram heatsinks might be enough to tame that.

My Dell Dimension 8100 is 5 years old. Lemme see, what upgrades have I done... replaced the soundcard almost right away with a 5.1 card and speaker system. Replaced the winmodem with an external hardware modem so I could get online with Linux (this was before going broadband). Added a CD-RW. Added a 2nd hard drive. Added more RAM. And finally, upgraded the video card. It's still hanging in there, but I guess it's time to start thinking about a new PC so I'll be able to run 'Pong 3D: Ping's Revenge' and 'Multiplayer Solitaire' (if they ever come out of vaporware status).

Well.....look who wandered in, Steel!
heh......I play both PF as a standalone with the DRB squadron
www.pacificfighters.org
and I have the whole merged install but the ETO and really the eastern front just is not holding my interest, never really did. the AEP thing added some scraps to the ETO table but again not enough to make me jump up and down.
PF was like a breath of fresh air........and then Ubi kicked me in the balls!
We are waiting on what will likely be the last offical patch/update for a long long time. It's more , much more for the merged install with little to nothing for PF, unless you really want large russian multi turret tanks on Okinawa or something. Yes I am that bitter about the whole thing.
But, we fly on and still have fun. I go by Hookecho over there so drop me a line if you want to fly sometime.
SH3 is THE shit. that game is going to kill me due to lack of sleep. Below is a little 4 hour battle that had me up to 2 AM........

So there I am patroling BF15 pretty much in the middle of several shipping routs into and out of Liverpool. I had taken down 3 coastal merchants on the way around the UK (northern route, staying in that deep trough) and was getting bored. I had plotted a cris-cross patrol patern...sort of helter skelter all over the grid and was listening to "Deadwood" on the idiot box and reading "Convoy". I had my good watch team up top and everyone else resting that could be spared.
I got a map update...a few sightings at the edge of the grid...ho hum...I waited and kept reading (a great book BTW, highly recommended). My fellow Unterseeboot commanders....patience pays off.
I get a new map update....a large convoy! and it is almost on top of me. ****! it wil be daylight in 2 hours, and this close in, the air will be full of planes.....so......ahead full, right standard, get the fish warmed up. I head right into the starboard side of the convoy.
After a 20 minute run on the surface, I get "Ships spoted!"....right were i figured theyd be. But as the contact list grows, I find that I am going to be inside of the convoy right where I am. 6 rows of 5 ships. I'm about directly in line with the 2nd inside starboard row.....****...too close for comfort. At the head is a VW destroyer doing sweeps across the convoy path about 3000m in front....I am already in his baffles.
Dive!...periscope depth.....rig for red....up scope! Lets see, small merchant, small merchant, small merchant, costal merchant...hmm...pretty merger...wait...there in the center...2 fat T2 tankers! and a C3 behind them. Time to manuouver a little. Hydro is indicating the VW out front clueless and something training (red bearings amid all the black ones)
Also is it me or does the Sonar guy sound like a chick when calling out contacts under silent running?
setting up the shots now, the T3 tanker in the cente of the convoy is 1st. 2 shot salvo, fast torps, small spread....If I miss astern, I have a good chance of getting a ship in the next row....lets look at the 2nd shot....there! that C2 cargo...going to be a 2 shot salvo there also.....ok, back to the tanker...need to hurry a little as that lead ship on the 2nd starboard row is beaing down on me....Weaps!..match bearings and....LOS! 2 fish on the way to the tanker.....46 secs run time....starboard 10...get tubes 2 and 4 ready....there is that C2...rudder amidships...solution set!...wait for it....LOS!
Ahead 2/3's depth 30, right full!......I'm diving under the convoy...waiting....waiting...BOOM!..........hmm #2 must have missed......BOooM!.....BOOM!....BOOM!...holy **** 4 hits! Nav...depth under keel?...145m! make depth 100....keep it under the convoy...ahead slow....Hydro? what are they doing?
The escourts are heading over and serching the starboard side of the convoy....I'm now under the right 1/3 of the convoy and have all that noise between us and them.....make depth 50 meters!...once there I pop the scope up a little and scan upwards...I can see the wakes of the right side of the convoy above me...and I hear break up sounds behind me...sounds like 2 sets.
I think I'm now clear of the right side of the convoy...the 2 escorts are still searching on the left side....time to take a look...Periscope depth!....up we go. Up scope!....well the tanker is dead in the water as is the C2...almost behind it....**** only 1 torp in tube and 1 remaining reload for the bow, 2 torps on deck.....decisions...decisions. The C2 solved it for me. Both ships are low in the stern...must have hit the engine rooms or near there. The C2 makes steam and starts to pull away now on the other side of the tanker....the VW...is moving at high speed back to the head of the convoy and the 2nd escort, a covett is also heading in that direction.
Ok....line up a zero angle stern shot on the tanker.....pow...snaps the keel and she goes down in a heap, Fire...etc...
Surface the boat fire off a contact report..start loading the remaining fish from internal stores, and make for trailing the convoy as watch keeper, thinking maybe i can get some help. I'm in the TDC screen looking at the bearings of Hydro contacts when I see a red one gettign shorter. The corvett is heading right for us.....this should be interesting.
Gun crews up, hold fire, aim for weaps! still dark, about 6 AM, torps are 10 mins away from loaded. And that corvett is bearing in, dead ahead. I have her on the UZO...800m and she still hasnt seen us!....gun crew...fire for her weaps! Fire!....I'm watching thru the UZO, pow...1st shot right on the front gun tub....right full!...ahead flank!...Pow....Pow...2 more hits....getting some MG fire back now....plink...plink...on the tower.....Aim for the waterline!....Pow....Pow...Pow....down she goes...radio contact report....dive to periscope depth....head out at a right angle for a while and with no VW heading in...surface and try to catch the convoy.
Mastheads in late afternoon, I have kept a steady stream of contact reports every 2 hours all day. Time for a 1 shot pass at dark. I head out on the right side of the convoy and go flank on the surface, making 19 knots in a medium sea. The VW is still out front....I angle in for a shot at the rear of the convoy....there is that C2 again...still low at the stern....ok, thats the target. make a surface attack at about 1500m....I shoot, and then peel away.....Boom!....I hit the C2 but the bastard didnt go down again! I call in a patrol and contact report and head home due to low fuel.
That my friends was fun!
nice accounting! why is that not in the battletech saloon??? ;)
we are having a lot of fun with merged PF. we just finished a Nortn Africa campaign, and are flying a Italy campaign as US and a East Front campaign as Germans.
wonder why you don't like the ETO and East Front so much? just does not appeal???

ETO....been there done that, bought the coffee cup. CFS1+3 and EAW, B17II, Bob, Rowans Bob. All ETO. Now if someone made a ETO sim as in depth as IL2 was for the Eastern front.....then I'd be all there, flying my Blue nose bastard out of Bodney. But.....well you know the maps.
The PTO is like a breath of frsh air. That and I dig my F4U =)

well as long as I pretend it's not there then I dont get pissed about it. When some one cracks v1.1 or when 1.2 gets cracked then I'll remove starforce and play no-cd.
but, i will admit that the game is worth it. Now if we can get Oleg and crew off their asses and get us some good Soloman Islands maps for the missing 23 months of the air war in the PTO.....I will be in heaven.

Greetings all, just wandered by the forum to see if people were still alive and hey-ho here we all are.
Hi-Ya BH, I've just upgraded almost the same as you
AMD 3200+
1 gig Kingston DDR400
Nvidia 6600 GT (they've just come out here no sign of the 6800 yet)
old motherboard Gigabyte K7-NNXP but it's still damm good with the Soundstorm sound system built in (probably the best sound card around but they never released it stand alone).
Pretty wicked as I'm hitting 180 fps in sanc now.
Yup, still playing Planetside though not as much really now I'm BR23 though still got to work on my CR5 I guess.
other than that been playing around with FB+AEP+PF merged but to be honest I don't like the flight model that much it feels to arcady most of the time (almost impossible to shake someone on your 6)
Also kind of addicted to Warcraft III frozen throne, the online custom TD games are just way to addictive (I hav eabout 500 different TD maps now!!)
Other than that not much really although I did brush the dust off my MC2 discs and re-install them not long ago.
No chance of re-installing MW though the patch's/expansions installation is just to daunting for me to consider really.
<S> for now, dinner is ready

this is not a come back, only temporary solution to a serious addiction problem
