Hmmm, well I do not know that you can say "best" trained. The different units have their focus, and they are trained to accomplish that mission. Don't forget the GSG9... I am sure the Israeli's have a special service unit. Also re: the Rangers, they are nothing (?) more than an elite light infantry force and I would not count them as a special service force. Their NCO's do go through some advanced training, but it is mostly reiteration of what all Infantry NCO's should know - their training allows them to recite it in their sleep and do it with their eyes closed.

atm that link is dead...

was a week with belgian commandos, seems that there is a special force in our special forces called lrrf or slrrf - long range reconaince force, wich are only +-30 man (they only get replaced if one is KIA or quits for whatever reason) and they would be everywhere on the world where there are conflicts or where some governements expect trouble (yes other countries would use our lrrf peeps)
what they do? they get some coords and a briefing for a SECRET mission, they walk sometimes for weeks till they are there, get the info, walk back and all without being compromised - and only with 1 or 2 peeps

and another thing...your SEALs, 60% succeeds right? with our commandos only 40% does

well, I bet you would not stand toe to toe with a SEAL and tell him that, eh?

LRRP's are a common type of patrol usually given to scouts. They do in fact go for days or weeks behind enemy lines to discover what the enemy is up to. I chased down an OPFOR LRRP team while on manuevers in Hohenfels, Germany. We waxed 'em:)!

A force that specializes in this could be extremely valuable...but then suited only to that mission although they would be more highly competent that the average soldier just by nature if their training.

we wouldn't, but our paracommandos would! some of the commandos I've been with saw a real LRRP unit or at least they thought he was (they never talk about what they are/do/where/did), one even did manuevers with one and a SEAL is NOTHING compared to a belgian LRRP unit...as fur said, our paracommandos have a better training then your SEALS.
as I said, our LRRP are asked by other countries to do missions, just cuz they are so...um...different then regular special forces - you say that it's given to scouts, so in your country that's not a seperate detachement?

I don't say belgian army is that good - our navy is worth nothing (dutch underwater boats have kicked our buts on an international maneuvre lately-->although I've heard that the dutch prefer our boats cuz they have a bar and the dutch boats don't  ) exept maybe the minesweapers - and our tanks etc are old, but we do have the best pilots on the world (a US inspection came to this result) and if I can believe the peeps I was with, our frogman would be the best in the world too? are they?

Hmmm...special forces I'm aware of are:

Domestic:
Green Berets (U.S. Army)
Delta Force (U.S. Army, anti-terrorism emphasis)
SEALS (U.S. Navy)
MEU/SOC (U.S. Marine Corps; Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable; regular Marines with limited spec-ops training)
Marine Force Recon (U.S. Marine Corps; true spec-ops)

Foreign:
Mossad (Israel)
GSG-9 (Germany)
SAS (Britain)

Without wasting time reading the above drivel, let me first say that there is no"best" SOF unit. I can imagine that someone above said that SEALs are best, or SEALs suck, and that person is an idiot.

Every SOF unit in the world is the best at what they do! Each unit is differnt, and does their mission in their own special way. When units no longer are needed, they are shit-canned. Every SOF unit in the US has proven it's worth in combat, and will continue to do so.

So for all you "Chairborne Rangers" and wannabe's out there, I tip my glass to you and say, "eat me!"

Cheers.

They may not be the best of the best, but I deffinately think they deserve a hella lotta credit.
Yeah, they are. They are the best at what they do, just like every other SOF unit!

Like I said, if an SOF unit wasn't the absolute best, they woul dbe shitcanned. Their budget could be put to good use with any of the other US SOF units.

In other words, they are all badass! Even the Coast Guard.
