Those of us here which have already seen it, what did you think? I was very impressed myself. Lucas really did a great job with both the emotional impact of the story and the special effects. Great film and 2nd only to Empire Strikes Back.

I think the people that called it "dark" were prone to understatement. Perhaps DARK would be closer. :shock:

Loved the movie, seen it twice already. They did a great job tying things together.

One thing I caught was when Ben Kenobi was walking away from Anakin (After their big fight) and he picks up Anakin's Lightsaber. I have to assume that is the Lightsaber he gives to Luke in Episode IV.

What was the significance of Yoda's Cloak floating down after his fall and landing on that metal pole or whatever it was? Hmmmm...

Did you know that the young Jedi that ran out to help Bail Organa on the landing platform was George Lucas' grandson or nephew? (Can't remember which)

I already want to see EPIII again.

Excellent observation! I would think the same. How ironic that Luke would get the lightsaber of his father and not even realize it at the time.

it makes sense considering that Vader comments in ep6 that Luke has modified it.

It SHOULD make sense the books were written long ago IIRC. They shouldn't have a difficult time putting that sort of detail together.

Ok, the dialogue was a hokey at times. I think the actors had a hard time selling the lines, they did not always fully invest themselves in ther roles. Nevertheless, the acting was still very strong, the plot surpassed all my expectations, the special effects were absolutely staggering (see opening star battle for proof), and the attention to detail was absolutely obsessive...as it should be. A true labor of love.

Now you folks, I believe, have made a slight error. Excellent catch in noting that Obi picks up Anakin's saber and obviously gives that to Luke years later. However, Luke knows that it is father because Obi tells him so upon giving it to him. Jedi Master will back me up on this. The dialogue is something like the following:

Obi: I have something for you, something your father would have wanted you to have but your uncle would never allow it.

Luke: what?

Obi: Your father's light saber...it is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or crude as a blaster. It is an elegant weapon...for a more civilized time....before the empire

Note that Obi tells Luke it is his father's lightsaber.

Yup i can confirm those lines.

Also, Luke loses that lightsaber along with his hand in his first duel with Vader. Hence the "new lightsaber" comment in ROTJ. There was originally going to be a scene in ROTJ right after Vader arrives at the 2nd Death Star where he meditates and contacts Luke briefly on Tatooine, where Luke is sitting in Ben's old home making a new lightsaber. He then places it in R2 and records the message before sending R2 and C3PO to Jabba's.

Kodiak? no mention of religion here. Though there is a religious/spiritual context inherent in these films based on middle eastern and asian religious ideology and philosophy. Also ingrained in the film is the strain of 19th century British romanticism, which is based ultimately on platonism and neoplatonism.

You need look no further than Wordsworth's "Lines Composed Above Tintern Abbey" to observe a glaring connection to Yoda's famous "nature of the force" speech in Empire Strikes Back. Though, I'm unsure if Lucas ever consciously made this connection himself, many literary theorists have noted the similarity in their studies of pop media.

And quite frankly, I see enough of those what with the wife and her damn programs! You know tonight she took Darren to hockey for me, took the mobile, but left it wherever I don't know - but didn't answer the bloody thing. To cap all that off, she sets the friggin satellite to record two programs for the whole time she's away at hockey, which means I can't watch any of my own programs while she's out. Then once she gets back in I can't watch any of my programs cos she wants to watch the ones she's recorded while she was out.!!!! :shock: FFS!

Are you sure about that? My box allows me to tape 2 shows at once, but if you don't want to watch either of those you can still watch a prerecorded one at the same time--you just can't watch a 3rd channel.

That's right, you can only watch one of the proggies you're recording, or another pre-recorded. I wanted to watch my own programs which don't get recorded! :shock: :lol:
