As you can see, he's excited by what I can only describe as a fairly average game, and the result could have easily gone the other way. As we say in Scotland, they played pish!
England are 4 places above USA in the FIFA world rankings, and there wasn't much in it , in the game either. England not fielding their 'strongest' team, USA not playing as well as I've seen them play. Mind you, they were easily a match for the England team, and would probably have gotten a similar result against the 'full' England team. No, gentlemen, by footballing standards this was a fairly average game. But youy aren't going to get anything better in a friendly unless it's a grudge match of some nature. England were definitely looking at their younger/less experienced players to see what they could do.
The problem in England is they are always talking themselves up, and their team is simply not up to the task a lot of the time. Be like us Scots and just enjoy the good times where you can.

Eh! I'm just waiting for the next World Cup in 2006. That's entertaining to watch. I managed to watch every match which the USA team played in 2002. That game against Germany was heartbreaking (1-0 loss).
BAH! Brazil is just going to win it all again anyway.

Panzer, we will only be able to call you to the fold (of footy fanatics), ifm you watch EVERY game of the World Cup. Talking of which, we (Scotland) have a qualifying game against Moldova next weekend I think. We really need a good result, or we're pretty much out of the World Cup for '06 - there has been a change of management recently, and a good feeling around the Scotland camp. We may see an upward movement of team. Would be nice, been in the doldrums for a while now, and a World Cup campaign would be great. Up until about 1990 we had qualified for every World Cup since I can't remember, these days we have little to cheer about. Maybe our fortune is about to change.

i must confess to being more of a rugby fan, and so did not watch the little pansies kick their oddly shaped ball around
Still i obviously enjoy it when England win anything, but as has been mentioned, it was a distinctly lacklustre game.
But, back on to rugby, the Lions tour of New Zealand is coming up, and i wait with baited breath to see how it goes. After Leicester losing against Wasps in the Premiership Playoff final (what a farce that is, but don't get me started) I need something to lift my spirits.

Have to say Moose, rugby league never quite ever flicked my switch. All the stop-starting and mauling that went on pre-'ball in play' seemed to do that. I played rugby union at school up until 4th year (Under 16s), when I left to join-up at mil college. We played good, were U-16 West of Scotland champions. Towards the end of the season, by which time we'd already won the championship, the coach began arranging games for us against colleges - they were playing 'big boys'' rugby, we were still playing school rugby (ideals of the sport for the sport's sake, winning isn't everything etc.,) Boy, we got a sound beating every game we played. But we were learning fast too, and would be more ready than most for the coming season (which was the coach's idea of it all). Anyway, in my last game, some right danny-fukwit collapsed the scrum, which isn't normally too bad, except as you can imagine, their scrum was about twice the weight of ours, and I ended up at the bottom being hooker. To cut a long story short, I woke-up on the sideline wearing an oxygen mask, and decided that the game wasn't what I was playing it for anymore, so I quit right there.
Then I go join-up and find myself playing 'murder ball' on the firing ranges at 0600 in the morning, waiting for the visibility to reach safety levels for the range to open.
Makes you wonder doesn't it?

i'm a union boy myself kodiak, and i know what u mean about the pressures of the front row. being a loose head prop myself. One of the nastiest injuries i've seen was by the guy playing hooker for us about 4 years ago. Scrum collapsed and he broke both sides of his collarbone at the same time. God knows how he did it, but he never played again....can't say i blame him tbh...i've been lucky with injuries, the worst being a dislocated thumb (although the numerous kicks and studs to the balls are less than pleasant:))

To me the odd bloody nose or dislocated/twisted thumb or whatever was just part of the game to me. One injury was quite bizaare really; I had the ball and found myself very outnumbered in a small area close to the their line. I turned to allow the scrum pack to drive me on with some added weight before they could organise themselves better. But as my mate came towards me crouched with his head low, I was either pushed extemely violently or had my legs chopped. Whatever, I couldn't bring my hands with the ball up fast enough from that cradled position, my face met his head, and I found myself doing a starfish impression in a nice muddy puddle (fortunately  ). My face was absolutely buzzing as I got up, headache from hell, blood from my lower lip, and two broken teeth. Boy, was I pissed! Until I saw my mate still lying sparko on the floor. And yes, when he woke, it hurt like hell too. We spent the last 5 mins of the game on the sideline, he had to have scans for a few months too after that. But the comment you placed in brackets is exactly the sort of reason I gave the game up at school in the end.
