Supposedly, these are very good drivers which improve performance in several games.

On the subject of ATI drivers ... what is the deal with the two versions? One with CCC and one with CP. Any opinions?

I just use the traditional control panel. I dont care for the newer CCC version at all. It caused my PC to reboot a couple of times in the past and I really have no need for all the fancy features. The standard Control Panel does everything I need. The CCC also requires that you have that Microsoft NET Framework software installed.

Did you install the standard control panel or the fancy CCC one?

I only have the nVidia stuff to install, it's fairly easy and fuss free. There are plenty of extras but I won't mess with any of it for fear of screwing it up.

then you have no need of posting here except to inflate your post count...

i installed with the ccc, then removed it and did some other tweaks (like fast writes off), rebooting each time - no go. as soon as i installed 5.5 it was all good.

Infact given all the recent games we've seen around, the only one I experienced any 'graphics' issues with was Dangerous Waters, that was solved fairly easily.

Yeah, but not for long. Come Monday it's off to sunny Bordon to sort out the Corporals' Mess accounts and run the PRI shop accounts, stocks etc.,
Looks like part time work, part time golf course for me!! 8)

I just purchased a ATI Radeon 9550 card (being an nvidia man) I was looking for a change of pace but I should have checked with you guys first. It seems that ATI has to many problems but I think I will get thru it ok with you guys help.

I dont think that card may be up to snuff for the newer games coming out right now. You could have gotten a 9800 Pro for a pretty cheap price and it's a lot faster than the 9550.

here you go, just 124 bucks!
