engaged encounter was started by the marriage encounter program...
it does give you skills for your marriage, in this case before you get married. it is actually a good program - the weekend went much faster than i anticipated...and we got a lot out of it. even if you are not catholic it would be worth your while if you are engaged or become engaged.
if you are already married, mariage encounter is a pretty good program too. it is for christians, although they may have branched to cover other more common religions by now as well. i was at a couple of weekends of this program with my father and step-mother in my early teens...
i myself am not catholic or very religious (spiritual in a way, yes - but not religious). i was baptised catholic but that is about as far as i have gone. if you can take the religious part for a while, you can get some good things out of these programs. if your spouse or spouse to be is christian/religious, i would almost proclaim them mandatory... it helps you understand some of their outlook on religion and life. this is the beginning of my giving to Nidia, i said i would try this and do it for her as it was important to her. it ended up being a good thing - actually all of the catholic marriage prep is. i am suprised by the turn in the church from what i experienced previously...
