Today, Jan 17, is the 34th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm. I used to commemorate by flying a Jane's F/A-1 mission simulating the mission of LCDR Michael "Scott "Spike" Speicher of VFA-81 Sunliners (Who said Sunliners?!?) who flew on the first mission into Iraq to take out the SAMs southwest of Baghdad. He unfortunately became the first aircraft shot down in the war, which became a much bigger story that I'll save for another time.
But here is a quick and dirty mission I made in the mission generator simulating that. Since it was generated, plus I don't know how to add working carriers, it starts and ends in the air--there isn't even an airbase to land at yet as the Iraq map isn't complete yet.
Anyway, this is what it must have been like that first night:
