R6: Vegas

Is anyone here thinking of getting this for the PC? I played the SP demo for it on the X360 and it's pretty good.
I wanted to ask the rest of you WOFers if you were considering it, but I'll likely wait for the reviews are out and the opinions of those who buy it before I decide. It releases for the PC on December 12th, 2006.
Discuss.

I'll try the demo if one is released but I dont think I'll be getting it. This one really does seem to be too arcadish for my tastes.

Love it so far.
After the huge backlash from Lockdown, Vegas is from a different dev. many lessons learned.
Best new feature:
When you use the snake-cam under the door, you can "tag" the tangos from the snake cam so that when you breach, your teammates shoot their tagged tango so everyone doesn't shoot at the same tango. THAT is good stuff.
Entire campaign is MP-Coop playable. 4-player. Not sure about the tango hunt or other adversarial stuff.

Sounds interesting. I hope they make a demo for the PC version.

Panzer, what evidence makes you think it's arcadey? Are you basing that opinion on the previous R6: Lockdown? Or is it because it's on a console before the PC?
While I was playing the demo on X360, I was thinking to myself, this is how GRAW should have been. I think you will be pleasantly surprised on the ATD (Attention to detail) that they have done with R6:Vegas. They have added more features to the series, one of which Gator has mentioned. Another added feature is a thermal vision like in Splinter Cell, or the Predator movie.
Now, if you factor in some of these new features, (which I'm not sure if you are/were aware of), they might make the gameplay a bit "easier" per say, maybe that could justify making it seem arcadey. Like I said in my original post, I'm going to wait for the reviews and other people's opinions on it before I buy, and yes, a demo would be nice to try before you buy. At the same time, I have played the X360 SP demo (As I mentioned earlier) and it was pretty good.

Yeah, pretty much. I played the demo for Lockdown and I was thoroughly disappointed but if R6:Vegas is a major departure from Lockdown then that is great news indeed.

different focus between GRAW and R6. you all have to realize that. if you like urban, door to door/room to room stuff then you should play R6. if you like field and house to house stuff, then play GRAW. field and house to house can not be the same as door to door/room to room.
probably not goiong to get it soon... we shall see though.
does the xbox 360 version have first person, or 3rd person only?

I believe there is both 1st and 3rd person Steel. I'll double check in the X360 demo tonight when I get home.

PC version is 12 Dec.
It's first person unless you are "behind cover" ... then it switches to an over the shoulder view (head, shoulder, gun) so you can see how you are protected/visible. It's an interesting system. If you don't choose to use it (hold down ctrl, like the dynamic posture thingy from rvs), it's 1st person all the way.

H4XX0RZ!!! Hell yea I'm 1337!!
I picked up the X360 verison of R6:V, and it's pretty good. So much so, that I will probebly get the PC version as well. A very addicting game so far, I have not wanted to stop playing. It takes some practice getting used to the gamepad + FPS thing, but after playing GoW with a gamepad, FPS games are not so bad. Of course a mouse and KB are better, but a gamepad is playable. The aiming is not as jerky as I thought it would be, it's very smooth and dependant upon how fast or far you move the stick left, right, up, or down. The AI seems pretty good, they use cover, shoot blindly around corners (Same feature you have when behind cover), try to flank you, etc..
The damage you take in the missions is similar to GoW, you can take so much damage before you die but there is a heal over time feature. Yea I know, not realistic, but this is also on the Normal difficulty setting. I am assuming that on a higher difficulty setting, the heal over time thing is not implimented or less relaible? Not sure if you could get through the missions without it. There are no health packs to pickup in the game, so I'm not sure how it works, if at all, on a higher difficulty level.
MISC FEATURES
You can pickup weapons from fallen enemies, whatever fancies your playstyle. The game is played from the first person mode, and when you get behind cover, the camera switches to an over the shoulder view, which you can adjust with the gamepad joysticks to get a better view of your surroundings. You have the option to use a silencer on all of your weapons during the mission. You don't have to select silenced weapons at the start of a mission, you carry a silencer with you at all times, and you can take it on and off during the missions. Your AI teammates will do the same as you, so no worries about them firing away without silencers. You can have your teammates stack up on a door that you want to breach. Once they are in position, you are given a few options like Breach bang and clear, Breach and clear, breach gas and clear, etc... You can tell your guys to hold on one door, while you run to a seperate door, and wait for your order(s). Then, you and your team can attack from 2 seperate locations on the same or different rooms. There is rapelling available in certain locations on the map. Meaning you can't just go rapelling whereever you want, only in certain situations. (Like outside a room that has a window entry and you can access it from a rooftop) There is a Snake Cam that you can use to look under doors into the room without opening them (ala Swat 3, Swat 4), there are Thermal imaging goggles you can use (Which are not all that great IMO), and Night Vision goggles (Looks like the nightvision from Lockdown) as well.
I haven't played it with MP COOP yet, but hopefully we will fix that this week.
So, there is my "mini" review of the game so far. It sounds like when they made this game, they listened to the community on what features they wanted in the game. I am happy with it and I am looking forward to the PC version.

No, I forget the name of it, but the first game that will allow PC/console MP will be on Windows Vista using Live Anywhere. I think it's Shadowgrounds?

Halo3? UT2007?

No, it's Shadowrun.
It looks good, from what I can see. It's based on the FASA pen/paper RPG. I get that it's like counterstrike, but instead of buying weapons between rounds, you buy "abilities" like spells, skills, etc to flesh out a unique character. It takes place in the year 2020 and is based on some south american mythology. A mix of modern and ancient, fantasy and tech.
