SAS v2.1 Reticles

Post by Madrus »

I have successfully begun to change the reticles in this mod.

I figured it out with help from the Ghost Recon\Mods\SAS21\Shell\readme.txt file.

It involves editing your Ghost Recon\Mods\SAS21\Equip\.gun files

First back up any .gun files from SAS v2.1 that you intend to edit.

Replace every line starting with <reticle... in a .gun file from SAS v2.1 (there are 11 lines usually) with the equivalent line from a .gun file in your Ghost Recon\Mods\Origmiss\Equip.

For instance, I copied my reticle instructions from the m4.gun file and substituted those lines into every M4 weapon in the SAS 2.1 mod. I did not change the reticle name either - I left that the same (reticle_car.rsb).

I did notice that it worked for every M4 weapon in SAS 2.1, but other weapons were missing reticles now. but since i will be replacing them all, that should be corrected when I am done.

When I finish modifications and testing of the new gun files, I will be glad to send copies to all who want it.

Another way I just thought of was to just copy over the whole gun file. For common weapons this should work, but for new ones that are not in the original game or another mod, you'll have to copy & paste a new reticle.

Also be aware that you might have to alter the properties of your file from read-only in order to make a change.

O.K. - question...

If this mod just adds weaps and uniforms - is it worth the effort of doing all of this?

I understand no new maps or missions...right?

Well, I DO enjoy trying out new weapons to see how accurately they resemble the real thing, and if I like the feel of the weapon as a whole, then I may use it more often. The uniform thing to me is a bit of a waste unless you want to identify yourself within larger populated environment.
As for missions, well there is another mission folder out called BOOM Missions - usual place:

actually, i do think this is a waste of time. i got all the assault rifles changed over, but i am having a bit of a problem with the mg's. i think i will bail on this mod. enough time wasted.
