Red Orchestra (UT2003)

For those of you with UT2003, there's a relatively new Total Conversion out that simulates USSR/Germany in WW2. It has a very nice "iron sights" implementation, but it's teamplay/adversarial with no missions, but it does have "bots" so can just go and try to kill all the guys on the other team.

It's kinda big (330 MB -- can we put it on Steel's server :P ), but it's pretty well done. Worth a look if that's your interest.

I am also looking at "Troopers" ... a Star Wars TC for UT2003. It can be found at lucasfiles.com . I haven't looked at it yet, but I have it and will try it soon.

UT2k4 is the new version of UT that's coming out next year (so they say) -- they're going to yearly releases ala the Madden and other sports games ...

Red Orchestra has an "infiltration" feel to it ... except with exceptional visuals. I'll tell you, if you are on the German side and carrying only the Kar98 against more than one foe, you are screwed. The reload times are excruciating (but probably realistic). The iron sights are pretty well-done. The maps (that i have seen so far) have a very good feel to them. Especially the second one down in the list. Really feels like the Call of Duty demo map. Nice fog and other details. I think if it were played with a team of humans against a team of bots, it might be similar to Ravenshield Terrorist Hunt ... except it seems like the bots are more active ... they'll come after you -- they aren't just stationed behind doors ... ready to pop you.

For those with the time/bandwidth/ut03, it's worth a look. I don't recommend this to Kodiak -- simply because of size. Unless Kodiak can get someone to send it to him on cd.

Simple integrated installer makes installation easy too. No need to worry about where to unzip stuff.
