Howdy,

I picked up Far Cry today and I have one word - Wow!

It is pretty unbelievable. I like it so far. I've driven a dune-buggy and a jeep. I swam, threw a grenade, sniped with the M4 and gone cqb with the handgun. I ran two guys over with the jeep.

The visuals are great. The baddies take a couple shots to go down if they have body armor, but are a one-shot kill with a head-shot.

So far the "health packs" haven't turned me off - they're pretty innocuous. They don't glow or anything silly and are lying around just like amunition and firearms in logical places.

Multiplayer: It has 3 modes -- Free-for-all, team free-for-all, and Assault/Defend. It kinda makes sense in this one for there not to be a "coop mission" mode since there really aren't missions in the campaign.

If anyone else picks this up, we could try it online, but I think the emphasis is single-player. I don't really expect enough of WOF to pick this one up for us to have any 4 vs. 4 assault/defend matches. After all, we could play that mode in GR or RVS.

Just my thoughts.

Far Cry, not bad.......not bad at all.

I got it, LOVE IT! Much much better than I thought it would be. The demo is nothing really, when compared to the full version. I love the Binos with the sound antenna, you look through the binos and hear conversations. I also like how the AI work as a team and try to flank you. You can hide in the brush or underwater from the AI and they lose track of you. The campaign is very scripted, but I really like the storyline and game so far, very well done. The graphics and the water are some of the best I have seen in a FPS. I agree with you on the health packs, they are in places I would expect to see one(Bunker, Hut, locker room, etc..), and when you find one, you usually need it. I keep getting killed by the enemy HMMVS and some RPG guy I can't see. Died 4 times already, when I come over this hill and BAM! I decided to take a break, gotta get ready to play RvS.

I'm up for trying out MP Gator, it uses the lovely UBI MP login interface, oh joy.

I installed the patch today -- it didn't seem to break anything, but I can't say I was aware of any of the bugs it was supposed to fix. Also, I'm not sure what all the complaining on the "official" boards is about -- my ATI card works fine. I am playing it on all-medium video settings and it's still easily the most stunning visual quality I've seen.

Wow, I really am enjoying this one. I decided to replay the beginning part and the AI response is VERY different depending on what I do.

Listening to the enemy conversations through the binocular/mic is great -- "so, when do we get to start killing people ... we're mercs aren't we?"

The idle conversations are great, but I really enjoy when they think they're gonna kill you -- "suck on this!" as the rpg streaks towards your hiding spot.

very nice so far.

BTW: Steel - sounds like someone is trying to add iron sights to it... It's apparently a very mod-friendly engine.

Like the idea for the Jurassic Park mod? I saw that one somewhere. It's no more than an idea right now, but if they pull it off it will HAVE to beat Trespasser!
