Okay, got a new link for this one - only just d/l'd it myself, it took 4 hours, so expect it to be slow. Will be having a blast tonight to see if it's worth playing with online. Anyway, here's the link:

Okay had a blast on this mod - it ain't easy, even on the first mission. The map is very awkward, but playable. Looks to have some potential if anyone is interested anytime.

I may have been a little eager to judge this mod and another which has since appeared on the ghostrecon.net news page. The one thing that appears to hold most of these mods back is the distinct lack of weapon choice, availability and combinations to each type of team member.
Most special ops team members tend to choose their own weapons, and also the calibre of that weapon to best suit his own mission requirements. The other considerations which have a high priority are compatibility of ammunition (and hence weapon calibre) across the team, familiarisation of each team member with other team members' weapons / equipment, and finally one of the biggest considerations - reliability of weapon / equip in the field.
All you need to do is look at the Enfield L85A1 (SA80), an absolutely wonderful weapon to use - but it was so complicated, it was always failing! Hence the H&K L85A2 upgrade. Having said that it still needs to be replaced by something more definitive, IMHO! I should know, I've spent the last 15 years using it. And the one good thing I have to say about it is that the support weapon is fairly decent on single shot, and having had the chance to try it out with a somewhat larger than normal issue scope, it makes a "verging on the spectacular" sniping weapon, all it really needed was a consistent quality of round instead of the standard issue NATO 5.56mm round we were using. Once I had dialled the scope in at 600M, I managed to hit 7 out of 10 rounds on single shot at 1000M on a Fig 11 target all in the chest area. The other 3 rounds could have probably been put down to bad breathing drills on my part. There were others who did better - not least the demonstration personnel who both managed 10 out of 10!! A good accurate weapon spoiled by over-design I think.
Before that it was the Belgian FN (SLR - Self Loading Rifle to us Brits), a real man's weapon - 7.62mm. It was a damn elephant gun, but it sure as hell did the job. I am really against the move from 7.62mm to 5.56mm, and most people who have found the need to use a personal weapon in anger are too. With the new calibre it can sometimes take 4 or 5 rounds to knock someone down (and there are stories of people needing a whole magazine!) but with the 7.62 round, it usually amounts to a one shot one kill environment as long as you hit the target of course.

What would happen if we bought the rights to manufacture M16s and equip our troops with them?

Now why would we go and do that? The M16 isn't exactly the weapon of choice is it?! :?

Why not? I don't know much about guns, but I imagine that the M16 would be better than the SA80-calibre, fire modes, etc.

It has not been unknown for our own special forces (incl. The Regiment - SAS to the uneducated) to use the M16 and the many variants, not to mention the Canadian issued Diemaco C7, C8 variants which are favoured by more and more Sabre sections as personal weapons, we haven't even touched on mission specific, section support weapons or personal sidearms.
To give you an idea of what's hot and what's not, you could dig yourself some research on regiment sabre teams on operations and see for yourself.
