I bought it today and installed and patched it. I played it for a couple of hours and I love it so far. Count me in if you guys decide to play Joint Ops this Friday.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

I may not be online this Friday, we have relatives coming into town for the weekend, so I may be occupied. Oh well.

It would only be decent of them to show up Saturday morning, so you're not forced to deal with them coming home from work after a long week.

However, I've noticed some relatives can be extremely...NERVY.

I played for about 90 mins last nite with some SimHQ guys like Ranger, Rick .50, letterboy, and Paul Morrison. It was great!

Are we talking our mentality in approach to the game? That would be nice to know there are others like us!! 8O  [/url]

Did it again last night around 10 ET for an hour. Panzer was there this time, as well as most of the guys from the previous night. Teamwork is very important in JO, more so than even OFP and definitely more than RvS.
Without medics to revive you, you have to respawn at a fixed location that may or may not be anywhere near the fighting! Engineers only can carry satchels needed to blow up objectives or mortars for some light arty, only snipers can carry sniper rifles (and there are some OFP-like long distances here, surpassing even GR), only riflemen can carry AT and AA launchers, only the heavy MG guy can carry heavy MGs, etc.
Very well balanced from what I've seen so far--in any given mission there's always been one of each for at least some period.

yes well in the class aspect the game is hypocritical...

you have to be a certain class to carry/use certain weapons, yet anyone can get into a helicpopter and fly it? again, ludicrous...

does not mean i do not like the game overall.

Well, there's no "pilot" class. If you want to just fly, there is a model you can use for it so you look right, but I think a dedicated pilot might pigeonhole people too much.

exactly my point...in RL, you are pigeonholed. well, at least to the extent that an infantryman, be he spec ops or not, does not know how to fly a helicopter...

another point. are respawns during coop missions are unlimited? if so, how could a team ever fail a coop mission??? or are they timed? i don't recall from my one session...

I understand Steel's frustration at the game in how he views what is acceptable. I have to say I DO agree in general - problem is that to bring the rest of the game intoplay - they have to do something right!!?
Anyway, it is STILL a fact that most specialists would have a better idea of handling the other weapons than how to fly a helicopter.
Take a look at me - I am a (computer control) technical engineer - I repair & maintain Main Battle Tank electronic systems, guided weapon systems (AFV & ground mounted), Automated Artillery SP systems, Artillery communication and locating systems, Swingfire / Striker AT AFV, LAW, MILAN Firing Posts etc., Now ALL of those sytems, I am also capable of operating and very effectively too - otherwise how would I know I've actually fixed the damn thing, eh?! . I can also operate / use a plethora of personal weapons - from L85A1 to L7, L82 Barrett (woof! woof!!) 9mm auto super, Sig Sauer P229, LAW 80 & 90, MILAN Firing Post (which I also maintain), 66mm AT, 88mm Carl Gustav, and the latest invention of that too. And I'm not talking about simply taking the safety off and firing it - I know how to use these things properly, and strip them all down for daily cleaning. But neve has anyone ever taught me to start-up and fly a f*&%in' helicopter - no I learned to do that because I am an avid flight simmer - no other way. Mind you, I do fly microlights and I have had some experience of flight simulators, and the odd cockpit or two!

Well, to be honest Steel - I am neither for or against at the moment. Firstly there is a need to temper realism with playability - because we are all learning how the game plays. Once we are all happy with how things are fitting into this game, we can begin to remove those little advantages we have, until we are at a level where we are calling it fairly realistic yet fun too.
