Close Combat Marines

Post by Hammer »

The Marine Corps did a total mod of the close combat game engine and created a modern day close combat sim. Not sure if anyone here liked CC other than myself, but you can get this version free by ordering the September issue of the Marine Corps Gazette.

I am going to call tomorrow and order mine, if anyone thinks they might want a copy let me know and I will order it along with mine. I think it is VERY cheap - $3.50 per copy.

There is now a whole forim dedicated to this game on CloseCombat.org:

Oooooo, sounds awesome!! I want a copy too!!

EDIT: I went ahead and subscribed to the Gazette for 1 year, we'll see if I get my copy. I sent them an email specifically requesting for a September 2004 issue so I could get the CD ROM that came with it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I have ALL the CC games, they are a blast to play. This CCM should be real fun. About time someone did it.

I love the CC games. I think I have all 5, but know for sure I have 4 and 5.

I ordered 5 copies today. They will be shipped out tomorrow. Madrus and Gator PM or e-mail me your addresses.

SB, let me know if you want me to send you one the the copies I get...or if you will wait on yours.

Is this an FPS or is this done in that RTS-style view, like Commandos?

Steel, I'll wait for my copy and see if I get it. They sent me an email yesterday saying that it would be dropped in the mail and I should receive my copy in 5-7 days. I'll let you know in 5-7 days, heh.

Jedi, CCM uses the top down view that all Close Combat games use. It would be great if there was a 3/4 3D view as well, but that's not the case. I also have Tac Ops 4, but it is limited to certain maps, no editor, and it is turn based. BTW, anyone see if there is a map editor for CCM? I guess I'll have to scour the CCM forum and find out.

EDIT: I found the answer to my Editor question:

Softball,
If you want to try some head to head CC (4 or 5), let me know.

If I can find the CDs, sure thing Steel. I have never played CC online MP, I think it'll be fun. I'll try and find the CDs over the weekend.

CC5 is the Normandy one right?

Hello

Post by Softball »

Hello there and thanks for the detailed info on CCM.

I wasn't aware of the CC release called RtB. Is this available for purchase, or is it an addon / mod for an existing CC version? I will see what I can find on it in the meantime.

I have not received my copy of the Sept 04 Gazette, so I can't give any opinions on CCM just yet. From what I understand it is simply used as a training tool, and not so much a "game". I will be looking into editing and creating custom missions in CCM for us to play, should be fun.

I will certainly be visiting your site to read the latest on CCM, there's lots of info there. :D

I look forward to some H2H missions, or even MP coop missions.

I received my (2) copies of the Sept 2004 Gazette. So, I have an extra copy if anyone not on Steel's list would like one. If so, send me a PM with your mailing address and I will drop it in the mail Monday(U.S. mailing address preferred). BTW, I played through a few missions last night, CCM is a very well done mod. Can't beat the price either.

SB, I don't know what the deal is with this mod or game, as far as (c)opyright is concerned, but is it not possible to upload it in it's entirety onto the ftp site for distribution? Just an idea, mate. I'm not that interested myself to be honest, but I thought I'd suggest the idea, if it can save inconvenience or cost to those sending it to others.

That seems a sensible suggestion.
