For those that don't know, FtF was released today. Steel and I picked up a copy and will hopefully get some testing in tonight.
I found a pretty nice web site that has all kinds of info and videos on FtF. I registered there as Softball_WOF. Check out the site here:

I picked it up as well - it's been on my "must buy" list for a while now. Perhaps we could have a "splinter cell" test it tonight?

first impression: Feels like rainbow six, except this has much better AI. The enemies aren't perfect and the friendlies actually work as a team. I think the atmosphere is on par or better than rvs.
full spectrum warrior crossed with raven shield. must rescue/heal any downed team members. can pick up friendly or enemy weps. can't carry more than one extra wep. if more than two team members are killed, mission is failed. can call in snipers, mortars, airstrikes during missions. intuitive squad interface.
fire team members can actually take care of themselves. They don't require micromanagement. I told them to do a room takedown and they stacked up on the door. I got in line and told them to "go" ... the room was clear before I got through the doorway.
This is all very preliminary - just part of the first mission. We'll see how it plays out. Has the potential to be a ravenshield replacement. team-based cqb.

Sounds good. New game so it will be pricey I'm sure.

My vote? TWO THUMBS UP!! Gator hit the nail on the head, it's a cross between RvS and FSW, and IT'S OUTSTANDING!!
FtF freakin rocks guys! I played for 2+ hours straight last night. I have done about 10 or 12+ checkpoints so far(I think?). I just cleared the vehicle roadblock (mission after clearing a warehouse) and called in an Airstrike on a Technical that was at the end of the street on the next mission. I have lost one soldier on a mission (SAW Gunner) because I haven't fully mastered the interface. I accidentally told my squad to goto an area that was crawling with hostiles. If you point your crosshair and hit the "G" key, it tells the selected team member(s) to goto that spot in a hurry. I had my entire team selected and meant to hit the "F" key (Form up/Hold command) and hit the "G" key (Go Go Go) instead.
The enemy AI is not too bad, but they aren't as smart as your team IMO. The enemy AI will take cover and try to ambush you (Flank you). I even had an enemy AI wait until I passed a doorway, opened the door and attempted to shoot me. Thankfully I had my AI buddies behind me and they dispatched him rather quickly.
I am VERY impressed with FtF so far, I can't EVEN imagine how fun it will be with (4) human players on a team. It's gonna be a freakin blast. For those of you that have it, let's try and get a test session in tonight or sometime this week. The sooner the better.
If there is in fact a mission Editor for FtF (I forgot to look in the game folder), I will be playing it for a LONG LONG time.

o.k. - guess i will break the seal...
how do graphics compare to other current games?
effects?
BTW - I returned Republic Commando unopened, which I had bought with trading in some used games. Got about 10$ off the full price. When I returned it yesterday, I got full credit for the game - they did not count the used games I had traded for it. So I actually made cash on the used games...
Also, F2F is not a costly game. It is what games used to cost a year or so ago - $39 vs the normal $50 nowadays.

I would say the graphics are better than ravenshield, not up to doom3/hl2. In the ballpark of HD2?

by Hammer
Yes, this game reminds me much of HD2. I just wish there were iron sights...maybe it is at simulation level of difficulty?
The levels are a bit restricted, but not too bad. AI is great. This game is very cool...can't wait to try multiplayer.
Wed? Thu?

You finally got it to work eh Steel? Sweet man!
I saw in one of the many online videos I watched that there were iron sights. I am guessing however, that the scope view on the weapon you use replaces the iron sight view? There is a MP mode where you can select the weapons for each team member, maybe selecting a weapon without a scope will show the iron sights?

i had to exchange for another copy, the first one had a bad cd2...
tried installing via 6 different cd devices and 3 computers.
yes, in coop you can be the saw gunner, or in unlimited (or something like that) coop you can pick any weapon you want.
i wonder if we can disable the crosshair/cursor? make it more realsitic. truthfully though i played on marine difficulty to get the hang of the game and it is difficult enough...

I don't think you can. It has something to do with it's use in the game. It changes colors when you are looking at an area you can send your fireteam and such.
There's a guy at SimHQ having a similar problem as you, I'll let him know what you did to fix it.

yeah - did not think about the color coding of the crosshairs... arrrgh!!!

Well Kodiak, to make the decision even harder for you to get it...
Steel and I played a mission last night and it was very VERY fun. I mean yea, the missions are somewhat scripted, but there are some team vs team options where we could go 4 on 4 and it would make it nearly dynamic each time. We had a rough time in the mission for our first time around testing this out. Getting into a MP session was really quick and easy to do, and from what I understand you can join missions in progress. There is an option to join by the lobby/browser in game, or you can connect via direct IP. There was no long load times that I saw, and we were up and playing within like 2 minutes or less after selecting the gear we wanted.
There's a few things that need to be addressed...there are no Iron sights on the SAW....I don't know if this a bug or if it would be realistic or not, but when you run low or out of ammo, and you die, the guy you spawn into (You can set the number of respawns, yay) has the same amount of ammo as the guy who just died. I think of respawns as spawning into another team member, and you would theoretically have the other team members ammo load. In MP FtF it apparently doesn't work that way. So, you really have to conserve ammo during the mission, cause when Steel and I got to the end of the mission, I was completely out of ammo and had to use weapon butting as my attack, not fun against an AK-47. I wonder if there's an option to carry more ammo, I'll have to check.
I can't wait to get together with a full team of 4 and run through some missions. It's gonna be a hoot!

You can pick up an extra weapon. You can pick up extra ammo for weapons you already have. You can pick up enemy weapons.
Scenario: Pick up a ak47 from a tango early on. Pick up any ak47 ammo allong the way. when your m16 runs dry, switch to the ak47 with all it's ammo. Theoretically, you could have been picking up m16 ammo all along, but how many tango have m16s?
I'd like to try this tonight if you guys are online. That would give us 3.

Steel, Gator, and myself had a run at FtF last night.
What a damned good time we had, eh? I have not played that map before, but after the 1+ hours that we played last night, (after everyone left), I still did not complete the entire mission. I really like how the map breaks down into seperate mini missions, makes for a long mission.
At one point they mixed in civilians on the streets, it was a real pain in the ass trying to see if they were hostile or not.
For being as scripted as FtF is, I find that there is still some kind of dynamics in each mission. Working our way through a city street, you just never know where the AI is gonna pop up. We even had the AI pop up behind us after we cleared a certain area, very nice, keeps you on your toes.
Thanks for playing FtF Steel and Gator, I really enjoyed it.

was very fun... more, more, more...
Are you guys playing this on the weekends at all?

I just went up to the PX and bought it. I'd like to play online some Saturday morning/afternoon (friday night for you all) if its possible. I'm loading it on my computer, I'm glad to hear you guys saying you like it. I'm gonna give a break down of what I think of it from the perspective of a recently combat trained Marine
They said it's supposed to have realistic fireteam tactics. We'll see.
