Thoughts on "Shattered State?"

After some of the other discussions we've had, what do you (all) think of this:

http://www.clanhaven.com/ghostrecon/game_rules.asp

It seems like it's a turn-based strategy type game where the turns are decided by team vs. team GR combat ... kinda like Archon (remember that one?).

Hey now, that sounds cool! Now there would even be a motivator to play against other teams online...

I like it!

Anyone else???

I was poking around their site. It looks to be extremely well put together (the game that is). It looks like everything is automated and they seem to have thought of every issue when setting up the matchups. I hope we can get into this. I think I saw something about Friday being the deadline for joining...with gameplay to "start" on the 27th.

-later.

Let's see if we get more interest from the rest of WOF...then Raptor or I can sign us up.

What are the minimum number of players for matches (if anyone has had time to go through the rules)? Who hosts the games? What mods, if any, are used?

It looks like there is a "Shattered State" mod that would probably only contain uniforms for the game's factions and an assortment of weps. I'll check the mod and post back some details.

The host is determined by an agreement between the beligerents in each "match."

The number of players is decided by bidding.

ex: say the attacker says, i'd like to attack that territory with 10 soldiers. ... the defender says, I'd like to defend with 6. The lower bid "wins" and the battle will take place with 6 soldiers. If the defender has only 3 players, the match is played with 3 players with a respawn for each (2x3=6).

There is a posted formula, so that you can have cases where one side has a numerical advantage, etc. They also indicate that once the bidding is settled, a team may play with less than what they bid, but never more.

Also, you can switch players around between matches. You could sign up 8 different players and play with any subset.

The matches are 15 minute siege matches. So, we could really schedule them anytime and have good participation - It seems like they're not talking about hours-long marathon matches.

Like i said previously, it looks like they've really worked out the details.

The mod is 8.5MB ... not too big. It also contains customized siege mission scripting.

Uniforms:
Each of the four default actor classes (rifleman, support, sniper, demo) have been replaced with the four primary factions of the league (NATO, Guerrillero, Federalista, Invasor). Standard practice will be for each player to choose the corresponding actor class that matches their team faction.
Weapons:
Nearly every possible weapon combination has been made available to each of the four faction types, counting over 180 at present. The primary difference is that each faction acquires their equipment from different markets, and the kit graphics have been updated to reflect the varying prices. This will enable the player to easily see the price associated with their chosen kit prior to launching the game.

NATO factions will have ready access to nearly all weapons at a lower cost than any other faction. By purchasing directly from manufacturers and through numerous Small Arms Trade Agreements, NATO forces have buying-power on their side.

Invasor factions do not have the same advantages as NATO, but still have a few trade agreements with some non-NATO nations. As a result, many items can still be found at a lower cost than markets available to Guerrilleros or Federalistas.

Federalista factions suffer under a UN-imposed trade embargo and are limited to trade with Non-UN countries. This significantly impairs their ability to purchase equipment specifically manufactured for UN or NATO forces.

Guerrillero factions, having virtually no political ties outside of their small island are relegated to dealing strictly on the Black Market for equipment. As to be expected, nearly all items are expensive, and those made of the latest technology are all but out of reach to these hardy bands of freedom fighters.

Yep!
I'd be all for that as much as I have read into it - but I think the lag issue would be to the team's disadvantage, so would much prefer to be nothing more than observer/ advisor for tactical appraisal until I could work a solution for this lag I suffer. I do fully support the team in entering, even if I can take little/no part myself.

They say there are too many teams signed up as NATO ... there will be a drawing and the 4 teams that get picked stay NATO and the others get another faction.
