Well, we have a contract offer in Shattered States, but it is ludicrously low. I have sent an e-mail to the CO of the unit to see if we can negotiate.

Yes, please explain what that means. It sounds like thay need to setup a minimum bid for the Mercs, to make it reasonable and worth our time. I think they should let the Mercs run wild and just attack any territory, to steal weapons, destroy land, take a leader hostage for randsom, or just make a statement and gain popularity.
I understand this is still all very new, but it sounds to me like the Mercs are getting the short end of the peruvial stick.

I say do the contract, if they don't re-negotiate, we could always give them a good hiding too!!
And then simply steal everything they've got that we can carry. :lol:

It sort of makes that mercs don't get the money or respect they might deserve. Merceneries are scum, they fight for the highest bidder in a cut throat game of I win you lose. No one knows us, not suprising that they will not spring the money for us. Our honor is at stake; therefore, as respectable mercenery, my answer to a low bid is quite simple. Nuke those that made the offer. Then, send a message through the grapevine that others should think twice about offering such an insulting fee.

I don't think this is provided for, but would be a nice addition:
Have a certain fee paid upfront and a certain "bonus" payable upon successful completion.

FYI ...
I was just checking on Shattered State. It looks like they offered us $50 + 60% salvage.
There also appears to be a way for us to set a minimum value for those two numbers so that in the future, the offers are more ... comensurate?

Well that sounds more like it. With the salvage rights it may be worth our while. Though, I still say we nuke'em all the same....just to be sure.

O.K. - while in real life all those things are options, they are not in the game framework.
They offered us $50 for a contract - ludicrous since we did not even know what they wanted us to do nor with how many soldiers.
It costs us $600 to train a new soldier - which I did train the max of 24 so we have 48 at the beginning of next turn (should be next turn now - they should change on Wed.).
Plus, you folks should go look at the costs of weapons, etc. Some have a per use ammo cost - all of them being more than $50. Also remember, if you use a weapon in one match, and then use a different weapon in another match we have to buy both weapons. It is wise to get one weapon you like and stick with it.
Contracts are just that - we get contracted to provide soldiers to a faction for a certain amount of time. Will we get any action out of it? That depends upon what our employer wants us to do... Defend, attack, etc. Those desires are not transmitted to us in the game interface, so I made suggestions to the folks running the game that they be included so we can see them up front. I was out most of the day yesterday and have not been to those forums yet to see the results of my requests.
Finally, you should all go visit those forums and the site to become familiar with the rules. I am delegating rules familiarity to each individual - sorry I do not have the time...

Also, while mercenaries are typically thought of in that light, I have absolutely no desire to even role-play a unit/persona that is such. If you folks do, let me know and I will disengage from Shattered States and let you have at it (yes, you CAN screw over your employers in the game by taking a contract and then cancelling it, keeping the contract money...).

In the spirit of honorable mercenarios, i think we should take the contract and do our best to satisfy our employer. He may realize our value and fund us more appropriately on a future mission.

I disagree - $50 (period, not per soldier, not per turn - just period) is way too cheap. We will lose money just by losing one soldier, or engaging in one battle... I am willing to take the brunt of weapons costs and some losses, but one we are out of money that is it - we really can't do anything in the game any more.
I also contacted that unit by e-mail two days ago, and they have not replied at all...
If you all want to take this contract, confirm below that you have read and understand the rules/costs associated with the game (including weapons/ammo)(you can not really decide one way or the other without having done so) and that you still want to do so. If enough do, I will accept the contract...

In that case, we decline the contract and email them with our reasons ... in the future, they should contact us first and negotiate a price before they make an offer in the UI ... I suspect that some kind of price negotiation will have to be added eventually to the game since this would be a common problem...
I'm kidding ya know.

Of course, I was kidding about the dirty pool and cut throat tactics. I would never want WOF to be anything less than honorable. Still, I favor tactical nukes as a do it yourself problem solving system that simply cannot be beat!

But more seriously - if asked to complete a contract by an employer, the bill should at the very least cover costs of doing the job - and that would be let me see now, oh yes - we need weapons! All I am saying here is $50 is hardly worth even breathing at ( that would probably be the phone bill for setting-up the contract!).
Like you say, perhaps there should be some basic guidelines laid down to ensure that mercenary units are dealt a "fair" hand in some way. Well I think you guys get my point.

Everyone needs to be failiar with the rules. Forums are not necessary, but the latest updates are put in there first. They have also released a new version of the manual in the last couple of days...
Thaose that supported a $50 contract were the ones that needed to go look at stuff!
I WILL explain as time permits, bit mroe often that not I am going to have to point you folks to the rules/game interface... BTW, does everyone know that you each have a login to the interface?

Sorry to say it but my husband is having issues. :oops:
He's telling me that when I get a pet rabbit he is going to name it Satan... Let alone all this talk about Nuclear weapons. He's even making up jokes that include a man walking into a bar with a rabbit named Satan under one arm and a nuclear weapon under the other...
