No, Battlefield 2 is modern warfare with M1 Abram and T-90 tanks, TOW missiles, Apaches, AK 74's, Harriers and other neat modern hardware!

Haven't been able to test this yet, I will certainly put it at the top of my list.

Go here Kodiak for more info: http://www.totalbf2.com

P.S. Take a look at my Sig, it's from BF2.

Downloading the demo as I type here. I'll have a look at it at least. has to be worth a look, eh?

i DLed the demo as well. seems pretty cool. it would be better on a huge scale with lots of areas to take over though. its like a tribes/ghost recon mix up without the jet packs :P

i might consider getting this game if i can manage it.

one thing is that i tried playing MP and i kept getting kicked by punk buster. the error said not the right O/S privilages? whats that about?

tried this out tonight. No Steel, there are no "health packs" however, there are medics - they'll heal you if you aren't killed. there are respawns. The best analogy? How about Battlefront with modern military hardware.

So far, I've played it only single player. There are several (3 or more) control points. If one team has more control points, the other team starts losing "respawns" until a team is eliminated. The AI I've played against are reasonable at taking objectives, using teamwork, manning vehicles, etc. However, they don't seem like perfect vision/marksmanship.

It looks nice. If there is indeed a coop workaround, it would turn out about like Battlefront.

I don't see any settings for the icons, etc ... however, you don't see the enemy icons until you are very close - after you are already engaged usually, so you actually have to be looking for them, you can't just scan around for icons. and distant vehicles won't show their icon until you hover your crosshairs on them for a second or two.

You can use iron sights.

Gator and I played MP coop tonight with a few of the SP maps using the SP workaround. All you do is have the host run the game in SP mode, you get the host IP, and then connect to MP and join by IP#, and thats it.

We had absolutely no lag and some insane battles. I absolutely LOVE the artillery drops, very very realistic! Stuff goes boom, smoke, people and parts fly everywhere. I wish I could have recorded some of it. This one map we played feels like you are in the movie Blackhawk Down, very nice map. My favorite map so far.

At the end of the night, Gator and I started looking around in the config files, and it looks like BF2 can be easily modded to our liking. Stay tuned for more info on this.

We could use more people on some of these missions, so if anyone cares to join in the fun, pickup a copy of BF2 and let's rock! After tonight, I am hooked on BF2 and this MP coop workaround.

Read on some forums that this could be due to virus or spyware. just so everyone knows... now this is the interesting part. i ran my spyware scanners and nothing. so i did a few online scanners and found nothing. but when i played mutiplay in the demo i was able to join a game tonight. so not sure what all the hubbub was about with the thing in the first place.

as to the full version? cant afford it yet. got alot of things on the list in front of it unfortunatly. but i plan on getting this as soon as i can.

that map softball is talking about is awesome. Just a great environment. It actually felt dusty. I don't know how they get that feel.

Last night Softball and I were poking around trying to figure out some ways to make the game more to our liking. There's plenty of config files to tweak ...

One Caution:
This game is structured much like GR. You can mod and tweak all you like, but don't touch the original files. You may have trouble connecting to others.

Make a copy of the "mods\bf2" folder so you have say now a "mods\bf_rlg" folder. Make all your tweaks there and then you activate the mod in-game.

I think we can tweak to change ai behavior, weapon stats, etc ... there's probably even a way to take away the icons, and other "cheats" ... more later.

We should compile all our "realism" hacks into one "mod" that we can share amongst ourselves.

Hint - if you create a "mod" you can run it by creating a shortcut like this:

bf2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/<mod_folder_name>

And yes Steel - I'll continue this thought in the modding folder - I got carried away.

Tried to play this the other night with a few ppl....failed miserably...ppl created servers, but we couldn't find the games even using join by ip....did u have any trouble?

No trouble at all, connected on the first try. Be aware that some people probably use Firewalls, and that could possibly hinder you from connecting to the server. Gator had his Firewall down, so that's possibly why we had no problems.

As far as finding the games, you won't see the game on the MP list, you have to know the IP# of the person hosting the game, type it into the appropriate area, click join and hope you connect.

What about lag issues? When Panzer and I tried the demo, he mentioned getting some lag.

no lag that I could detect ... didn't see any warping or other wierdness. I think there's issues with the damage models ... but that's being worked on ...

a mod that adjusts some settings ... i recommend it.

what is this?

-Increased damage of anti-tank secondary shotgun

and this?

-Fixed chopper splash damage on machinegun and put it on missile

by Jedi Master
The first must apply to the shotgun that the AT guy carries. If it was too weak, that would be a major problem for AT guys' self-protection.

The other makes it sound like the helo's bullets were HE (when they'd usually be AP I'd think) and had excessive splash damage while the rockets acted like big bullets and had none.

Sounds like good alterations, although maybe DICE did it that way for play balancing?

I found another "realism mod" that I want to examine. More info later.
