Star Wars fans unite!!

Post by Softball »

I have Star Wars Battlefront II (DVD version) in my hands!! (Big surprise eh?) So, if any of you Star Wars fans pick SW Battlefront II up, look me up for some MP action this week.

May The Force Be With You, Always.

I got SWB2 on DVD as well...but the damn thing won't run. When I'm not having SecuROM issues (which is at least 50% of the time, damn them), it CTDs when loading a level. Sigh.

what is securom? similar to safedisk, or more intrusive like starforce?

SWBF2

Hmmmm Jedi...Didn't you have a similar problem with Quake 4? Sounds to me like you have a hardware/driver problem somewhere. I had no problems running the game. I guess some troubleshooting is in order, eh? Try cleaning out your TEMP folders, Windows/Temp, Documents and settings/username/temp, etc etc... This worked for me on some games I could not get to install/run.

I played the Dagobah map last night and got whooped by the Empire. I could not figure out how to choose sides so I had to select Auto assign for teams. I think the graphics and details on the maps are a little better than BF1. I even got to play as Yoda on one respawn!!! He has some force powers and his lightsaber, was very cool.

I have two separate issues. SecuROM, which in version 7 is a cross between SF and Safedisc (it DOES install software to a hidden subfolder in your Winnt folder, I found it by accident one day, but it doesn't seem to install drivers), will work for me on and off. For SS2, it always works, well 95% of the time. For FEAR, it's less. Maybe 60-70% of the time. For SWB2, more like 50%. When I say "doesn't work", I mean I get an error that I need to have the original disc in the drive.

The CTD issue in the 3 times I got far enough in to try and load a level is that either as soon as the loading bar stops it CTDs or as I get the screen to choose which side to fight on it CTDs while my mouse is heading for a button...I don't even get to click on it first. After a CTD, I have to reboot to try it again or the CP seems to lock out both the game and my drive.

I've also had SF issues with this drive, so maybe I should look for a firmware update as I'm relatively certain it's not a CD burner software issue (I've killed all the processes to no avail).

Jedi, Softball and I played Star Wars Battlefront 2 for over 2 hours today and we had a blast. I highly recommend that the other WOF guys get it as well. I have a feeling Gator and Grifter may be especially interested since they have played other Star Wars games in the past.

We did two types of COOP games today.

1. Space Combat COOP (Assault) is where you have set objectives like knocking out the shields on enemy ships, destroying communications array, destroying frigate, etc. Once you have accomplished all those objectives, you win.

2. Standard Ground Combat COOP where your objective is to take over all control points and run the enemy out of their spawn points.

By the way Softball, thanks for hosting! If you want to keep friendly-fire on, that's fine with me. It just means that all of us have to be much more careful and not just throw thermal detonators into huge groups of fighting guys.

It's also a problem when you're playing as a Jedi. Unlike the Jedi Knight games, you don't have the most precise control over the saber swinging. More than once I killed a friendly with a swing I couldn't stop.
Even when not a Jedi, the AI have a disturbing tendency to walk into your line of fire and eat the rocket you meant for the enemy!

If you were playing this all human v human online, I can see FF being off. Or if one entire team was human.

Also, the messages of who killed who seem wrong. I know at least once instance when Panzer got a message that SB TK'd him but I saw that an enemy did it. :?

As most of you know, I have finally managed to get my SHIII running. Having said that, only after a reformat and reinstall of all software, being careful NOT to install anything I really didn't need, including any CD burning software. But I still feel the same about this damn protection software crap and subscribe to Steel's idea of boycotting the software that makes use of these protection programs. I wouldn't mind at all, as long as the damn stuff worked, but all it does is hinder the gameplay, not to mention access in the first place. :x

well Jedi had problems - what did you do to fix them Jedi?

securROM sounds very much the same as that crap that Mechwarrior 4 mech paks had - cdilla.

i am torn though - the publishers seem to hamstring potentially great games with this BS...

Yeah, it's not that I can't understand their motives. But trying to look at it on a bigger scale - I reckon they lose more profit that way, than putting up with the piracy that goes on anyway regardless!
