R6:Lock Down Demo Review

Total crap and totally stinks. If you relished the original Rainbow Six game, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield for their attention to realism, detailed mission planner and simply that serious simulation "feel", then stay far and clear of Lockdown. I completed the single player mission and while some of the graphics looked nice, the character models were very blocky. The enemy AI is a joke. The character animations as they fall when you shoot them is laughably bad. You even get some kind of lame indicator showing you where your grenade will land as you get ready to throw it. I'm glad I tried out the demo though because now I KNOW that my skepticism was justified. As you look at this demo and play it you can instantly tell its been made for the gaming console. Here are some screenshots I took:

I'm not sure what you were expecting, as it didn't seem that different from RvS to me.
I guess if you rate Rogue Spear an "A" and RvS a "A-/B+", I'd call this a "B-/C+".
The enemies behaved better than RvS. None of that "run at 20mph, then stop and kill me with a headshot in 30ms" crap. The death animations weren't good, but that could be different in the demo--I'd expect full ragdoll in the game, like RvS before it, although RvS had some bad ragdoll problems.
Never threw a grenade.
The character models are much better than RvS, but if you're comparing it to FEAR or HL2 I guess that's your disappointment.
The only thing I didn't care for particularly was the overall "feel", but that's something that you either get past or don't.
I'm still on the fence. I know now it's NOT total crap, in fact it's a lot better than I thought it would be (I was expecting total crap), but it's also not a slam dunk "must buy."

Haven't tested yet myself. But Panz has very strong views on it already. Can't say I'll be bothered though, with OFP2 and GR3 on the way- if one of them is crap, it wouldn't do any harm.

I'm less optimistic about GR3 by far. The shots I've seen indicate that it's a console game from the get-go.

Yet another game I'll most likely skip but I'll try the demo if Ubi decides to release one.

If you like Star Wars games, Empire at War looks great!

They serve it in cups closer in size to shot glasses, to give you an idea!

I have been playing this a bit the last couple days and it is not that bad.
i don't think the grenade thing is so bad - remember you don't have any physical feedback through your monitor, so that makes up for it a bit.
the ai could be a bit better, but they were never that good in Raven Shield either. they have surprised me a couple of times though.

That was my take. Other than the graphics, I know this is no improvement over RvS, but I don't think this was the massive step backwards that some say it is.
The cries of "It's crap!" are getting deafening around the net...makes me wonder if they understand what REAL crap is.

I finally got around to installing and trying out the demo for this. To me it feels like raven shield with a new graphics engine. Nothing really new though.
I can't see spending $50 on this.

well, if one did not have the other stuff - then maybe. i like it enough to probably buy it eventually when prices drop if there is nothing better by then.
