Guys, if you back at $40 you'll get the P-51D and FW.190D for free according to Ilya's update in the comments. If they hit stretch goals (I doubt it will happen, they are pretty astronomical), then even more. Worth if you don't have them and want to see DCS WWII. There will also be three free aircraft and a new period map for WWII.
Re: DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Kickstarter Coming Sept. 5th
well, I see some advantages to DCS vs War Thunder. host your own server s a big one. but those planes are not free, you are paying 40 - right?
just so everyone knows. sep 2014 is targeted release. pledge money and you get access to beta targeted for may 2014. 5 playable aircraft, 2 from DCS world (P51 and FW-190).
does that mean you get them in DCS world too? right away? or is this a totally separate engine, game, install, etc?

Good questions and a lot of people asking similar questions.
The P-51D and FW.190D are not free unless you contribute $40 or more to the kickstarter. Yes, you're correct they're not "free" since you would have to contribute $40 to get them. But, if you contribute at least 40 you get those plus any additional aircraft they add if they hit their rather outrageous and unlikely stretch goals. So in that unlikely event your $40 will stretch even further to your advantage, and if they hit their 1 million dollar goal (never gonna happen) you'll get 13 aircraft for $40. And of course if funding fails they get nothing, you pay nothing, and you receive nothing. That's the kickstarter way.
Regarding interoperability of modules they are talking about having a separate DCS WWII program, using the edge graphics engine (though in the risks section of the kickstarter they mention this as a big one for potential delays), but the modules being interoperable, such that if you really want to fly an A-10C around in WWII period maps and you already own the module you can, and vice versa. So the claim is that if you own the P-51D now for DCS World you can use it when DCS WWII is available. Likewise with the FW.190D when it comes around. At least that's how they're talking about it in the forums.
This was Ilya's full clarification about the aircraft:

"Also, a little clarification since a lot of people seem to be writing about this.
Here's what happens if we hit our base goal, but no stretch goals.
The final product that is released will have the following content:
FREE Flyable P-47
FREE Flyable Spitfire
FREE Flyable Bf.109
FREE Non-Flyable P-51 (can be made flyable for an additional fee)
FREE Non-Flyable FW.190D (can be made flyable for an additional fee)
FREE Non-Flyable B-17 (cannot be made flyable)
FREE Non-Flyable Me.262 (cannot be made flyable)
If you back the project at a $20 level, you will receive either the FW.190D or the P-51 as a flyable.
If you back the project at a $40 level, you will receive BOTH the FW.190D and the P-51 as flyables.
Now, if we hit stretch goals, then all additional aircraft will be seen by everyone as non-flyables, but will be available as a flyable for a fee. If you back at a $20 level, you will choose any ONE of the paid flyables. If you back at a $40 level, you will still receive ALL the paid flyables on release.
If we end up meeting our ultimate $1million stretch goal, that means you will receive 13 aircraft for backing at a $40 level or above.
And yes, all aircraft will be made to the same level of quality and high standards as the DCS P-51."

OK - not to be a party pooper but I highly suggest everyone look at War Thunder. much further along, way more aircraft. yes it is more of a study sim, it is still in development, but it has arcade, historical and full real modes and the differences in aircraft seem plausible (German aircraft really suck until level 6!).
it will cost you nothing but time.
of course you can still pledge for this, costs nothing unless they reach their goals. for me, $40 is not worth just 3-5 aircraft and nothing else to really populate the world.

Re: DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Kickstarter Coming Sept. 5th
if they hit their goal at 100k there will be a normandy map, ground units, and some additional non-flyable aircraft. I wouldn't say nothing, but anyway at the rate they're going they're going to hit 100k so no biggie. It will be there for the taking.
Re: DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Kickstarter Coming Sept. 5th
I'm thinking about doing the $40 level, sounds like it will be worth it in the end.

If you dont have the P-51 yet you get the two paid ones so far for $20 each, so yes not bad.
Re: DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Kickstarter Coming Sept. 5th
This is coming to an end in less than 20 hours. It looks like a flyable Me.262 is just became a reality too, so you can get these for a lot less than the price of 6 DCS modules if you get in on it now. At this point they have $150,000 (almost to the dollar) and it's just a matter of any pledges that fail to go through possibly causing it to fall short, so the push is basically to get some padding in to make sure it doesn't matter if some pledges fall through.
