Thanks for the heads up. I'll update when I get home for lunch.

It was 25GB for me (I have all maps and a lot of planes, so that is a factor in the size of the update). It is indeed a big update in terms of what is delivered. The most important item is the multi-threading support. For those of you who don't know what the means, it literally means DCS will be able to use multiple CPU cores instead of just one. Those of you with lots of CPU cores could see big performance gains (at least in theory). I have a 4-core CPU, so it's possible I'll see a performance gain. I'm still downloading so haven't been able to try it yet.

Note if you want to try it there is a separate EXE for it. I went and started it as I always did and didn't see a thing change and thought "oh, that's disappointing."
The actual .exe is "\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe" and when you run it you will see "multithread preview" before the version number lower right of the main menu.
I was getting fps from 30-90 with 2.8.3 standard exe. With MT I am getting 110-180 in the few test missions I ran.
So...yeah.

Oh, interesting. I didn't see that I had to run a different file. Thanks for that. Will try later.

Ok so here is the big 1 million dollar question:
Should we start using this new EXE for our RLG DCS nights or should we hold off until this "beta of a beta" is updated some more?

This video says you can run either or when in MP. I can run MT and you can run regular DCS..... Sounds like user choice and we can all still play together

Thanks for that info Trichome. I'll run the MT exe then for next week.

server is updating.
yes, you can choose to run the multi-threaded exe or not, and it is individual choice. be aware that when creating a shortcut for the mt version or just running it, you do not get any updates, that only happens when running the regular exe. here is the faq:

Re: DCS Update March 10 2023
I only had about 3 minutes with the MT beta so not scientific at all, but first impression is that I am seeing improved performance. I have heard there is a HUD brightness bug affecting the Harrier, the M-2000 and a few other modules where only a portion of the HUD brightness gets adjusted when you change the brightness.
Re: DCS Update March 10 2023
I noticed a significant increase in FPS in VR, Quest 2
Cold Started an F18 and normally I get stutters on the ground, taxi and until about 5k altitude, today booted right in, and loaded up. Cold started smoooooooth. Very impressed.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to give it a try too.
Re: DCS Update March 10 2023
Figures that the MT would create random errors like HUD brightness. I mean, it's ED after all. I'll be using the MT I think, even though I really don't seem to have a problem with performance. May be worth trying. Might be able to up graphics or something, eventually.
