Blade Runner

Post by PanzerMeyer »

It had been about 5 or 6 years since I watched Blade Runner so I watched it again last night.

First and foremost what always strikes me when I watch this film is that it was radically ahead of its time when it came out in 1982. I’m convinced this is why it didn’t do well at the box office at the time. Most people just didn’t know what to think when they saw it.

I also think it’s an interesting coincidence how Edward James Olmos ended up being in two different sci-fi franchises that dealt heavily with the theme of artificial intelligence and “skin jobs”.

Also, if you pay close attention you will see a couple of things that Ridley brought over from Alien. The computer display graphic inside the Spinner flying car where you see the word “PURGE” is exactly the same one you see in Alien when the Nostromo lands on LV-426. There’s also the ambient background humming noise in Deckard’s apartment that you hear a few times in Alien.

Anyway, Blade Runner is in my top 10 list of greatest sci-fi films ever made.
