I'll be getting it tonight and Jedi already bought his copy. Maybe we all can play it this weekend?

Ya

Post by Hudson »

That would be pretty cool. :D

I already sent the same thing to grifter and a guy i work with. I was dying last night. We were being assaulted by NVA in a blown out building, a tank near by blaring Wild Thing, and I was just syncing my attacks with the music. So much fun. It's sooooooo great.

The music can get you into it big time. My kill counts are easily double what I used to manage in BF1942 and Desert Combat.

Between this, UT2k4, and KOTOR, I've not done much of any one thing this week.

I played BF Vietnam till 2 am yesterday. I've played till now 12:30 AM tonigt and think im gonna go back to playing in a minute. The soundtrack is killer. I get so into this game; my kill counts were never so high in 1942/DC. I manage 20+ kills sometimes; and thats not saying much considering I see in the 30's and even as high as 41. You go out and it's like you're hunting charlie. Stuff blowing up EVERYWHERE, people running, screaming, shooting at everything and nothing all at once.

I gotta say the M60/LAU combo is insane too. I've taken everything out with this kit, including enemy choppers.

Someone

Post by Hudson »

Someone was complaining last night that they didn't like Vietnam. I don't know if it was Softball? Jedi?

Anyway, I disagree completely with them. I think it is a great game, but I guess it depends what you're looking for in a game.

I love it though. I think it's great. And I think it's a must have. The End.

Well the only thing i have heard bad about it is that ATI cards cannot run it with AA or AF on since Nvidia are sponsors of EA these days and have set it up so that it runs better on Nvidia cards rather than ATI!!!

The Battlefield forums are full of people complaining about it, and they are all sending complaints to EA to get it sorted in the next patch for it!!

That may be so

Post by Hudson »

That may and probably is so. I'm frikkan blind as a bat and wouldnt notice unless someone said something. The 'Latest nVidia Drivers' button on the BF Vietnam autorun did not escape my attention. I'll have to take a closer look and see if I can notice the jaggies. I will be annoyed if that is the case, and put my two cents in too.

Trust me this is the case it needs to be sorted ASAP before Nvidia try and get a monopoly on the GFX card market by making games look better on their cards by making deals with other games manufacturers to make ATI cards non functional with their games!!!

This sort of tactic is way, way, way out of order and needs to be stamped on straight away!

If you ask me (and i know you haven't) i think this could be a bad mistake by Nvidia, they have already been caught out cheating with their benchmark scandal to make their cards looks faster than ATI and now they could make the games developers and publishers lose trade by making ATI card owners boycott their products, since this type of marketing strategy will not be tolerated by the public at large!

I am not biased against Nvidia (ie fanboy) but this type of strategy combined with their already proven attitude to fixing (see cheating) benchmarks to their favour really puts me of buying anything wih their logo on it!

Can't say I've heard of any of this cheating nonsense - but it is definitely BAD PR for NVidia. What I don't understand is why they find the need to do so, when they have people around like Gainward, who seem to make excellent gains with their NVidia chips. Obviously they are under a great deal of pressure - perhaps they're having some problems their next chips, and think they're going to need to stop-gap for an extended period of time.?! 8O :?
I, for one, have no complaints about my card - a Gainward GeForce4 4600Ti. It doesn't have any problems with anything I've played up to and including LO-MAC.

The cheating was due to Nvidia making it cards drop quality settings during benchmarking tests to give faster FPS, which resulted in better benchmark results!

Unfortunately for them but fortunately for us they got caught!

As for the EA contract that was signed a few months ago ( i'm sure i posted about it) quite a few major publications warned that the partnership could move in the direction of EA games being Nvidia card biased towards some settings. Good for Nvidia but bad for ATI card owners.

I haven't bought it, and i am unlikely to unless we have massive interest in this game.

But i dont intend this to discourage you, just responded so you can get a number of those who have it.

BFV

Post by Softball »

I have it, I think it's "OK". It's certainly no OFP, or BF1942 for that matter. Seems much more arcadish than BF1942. I have not flown any helos of aircraft, but I hear they are a hoot, will have to give them a try.

If we setup a night to play, I will see if I can squeeze it between all the other games I play. 8O

I just got selected as a Closed Beta tester for Lineage II, so that has been getting my attention lately.

The helos in BFV are quite a bit easier to fly than DC's. I was swooping around over Panzer last night and was able to control it pretty well. I'm no expert with it, but after 20 mins I'm better with it than I am after hours of trying in DC.
Part of it is the helo will hover with gently dropping altitude while hands off. In DC, if you took your hands off the "W" key the bird fell from the sky in about 3 seconds, like you cut the engine.

One thing I've found is bots KILL the FPS. There is some heavily unoptimized code in this thing.

As an aside, DICE Sweden (makers of BF42) did NOT make BFV. DICE Canada did, based on the BF42 code and with "consultation" with DICE Sweden.

Well i do not have it yet either and i think i'll be waiting to get it once the first couple of patches are out for it!

Drunken Pirate one of our newer members is a Super Moderator over at FPS Central and he was all hyped about getting it since he is a big BF1942/ DC fan, but even he is now holding of getting it due to the number of disatisfied members of FPS posting complaints about it.

All i'll say is if you want to know ANYTHING about BF1942 or BFV then Drunken Pirate is that man to ask! Being a head moderator at FPS Central he knows all about all the bugs/problems in all of these games and more. If you want to find out just whats happening with the following titles

BattleField 1942
Battlefield Vietnam
Call Of Duty
CounterStrike
Desert Combat(BF1942)
Doom3
Far Cry
Half-Life Series
Medal of Honour
Quake Series
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
Soldner
Unreal Tournament

Then head on over to FPS Central as they have Thousands of members and have all the info you need about all the above games and there patches and mods. Link to FPS Central is below. Any Problems just contact Drunken Pirate on that site or PM him here and he will assist you. Just tell him that you are a WOF member and that i sent you and you'll get all the assistance he can offer.
