I was wondering if anybody new about VATSIM.NET. I think I am going to try this out. vatsim.net and ivao.org.

I haven't read much of what is on these sites - what is the the general concept here?

they both provide a community of flying using Microsoft Simulator. In a nutshell you become a member with them and you can signon to servers and fly at any given time day or night.

From what I understand, this is a constantly open virtual world of flying and you have to file a flight plan before or right at sign on. Also once you get into the flight you have to finish it. I am reading stuff on there website hopefully I can give more info soon.

Frankly, I don't know why you folks bother flying civi sims. Boring. Ok, establish alt...set heading....and ....and.....BORING!!! 3 hours of flying in one direction doing nothing but watching the guages flicker. No thanks, I need speed and the ever present reality someone might shoot me down.

I was a member of VATSIM, etc. for a couple of years but then dropped it cuz i like the military flying better than the Microsoft Flight Simulator flying.

but it does work pretty cool as they serve just like real ATC does and clear you for landings and routes and altitudes and such.

From what I'm reading they have military squadrons that are associated with them and that adds some level of realism ie your flying along and all of a sudden here is a tight formation of F-18's or whatever. Now I've checked there website looking for games supported and they do not list them even though they talk about Microsoft Flight Simulator(and not a paticular version), but I have not seen a official list of games it work with so I'm wondering if it can work with almost any MP COOP flight SIMM out there, meaning if they were ever to expand there scope they could include actual mission like in say LOMAC(right now they do not condone terrorism, war etc. on there servers just good clean flying).

OH! By the way, Raptorman would have never responded if I didn't mention Griffy and I feel ya in the same sentence, but he did leave himself open to that one.
