Good to have ya on board mate-look forward to getting airborne with ya some time. If I were you, I'd PM Katana and ask her to add you to the WOF usergroup.

Larry, welcome. I'm sure Raptor et al will be along in the near future to welcome you aboard. We understand the 56k problem, I was 56K-bound whilst I was in Canada until end of Jan this year, so the guys are used to it over there. I did have an element of success with Falcon 4 there but not much. LO-MAC is a no-no I guess.
I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkins disease (Classic - Lymphoma rich type. Things seem to be going well and we just have to keep positive until end of treament. Just had my interim CT scan results - there's a thread on it somewhere here in the forums.
You'll find that everyone here is fairly relaxed towards things and we don't get upset at the odd blue on blue which goes on occasionally especially with G-R or maybe RvS - you really need to be aware of Raptor though - we've all but banned him from carrying grenades, he's that dangerous! But getting back on track we like to perform well, but we adopt a very relaxed approach to everything - and we don't do any of this court-martialling rubbish that goes on with other units - it's not our style. But this is all for Raptor or Katana to tell you really, not for me. I'm sure you'll be given a very warm welcome, and you should really enjoy your stay - hope it's a long one!

Welcome to WOF Blaster

Post by Softball »

Welcome Larry, good to have a veteran on board. Although I don't have as much military or life experience as you have, it's nice to see a fellow military man. I was in the USMC from 1988 - 1996, was part of a support unit (Supply) in the first Gulf War, nothing exciting, but I was there. The military was a good experience, but I don't regret leaving, at all. I have a high respect and regard for our military personnel, they are the backbone of this country.

The best way to get to know the people here at WOF and learn to work together with a certain sim, is to log into Roger Wilco(comms) and see if anyone is online and what they are playing. You can certainly fly F4 with 56k, and you can play Ghost Recon or Ravenshield on 56k (Kodiak does or did). If you don't feel comfortable with joining in on a flight just yet, you can always just sit on RW and listen in, say hello and whatnot. You will find our RW IP# and PW info on the Servers section of the forums. We are getting ready to start a new campaign within the squad, so maybe you will be able to join us for a few missions or maybe even get involved with designing them (Mission ideas, battle plans, locations, etc..)

Again, nice to meet you and hope to fly with you online sometime.

Allright. Welcome. i am 55 years old and a cancer survivor as well, Larry. I also prefer A2G, so it is great to have another mudder with us. Anything i can do to help - let me know.

Larry,
Welcome...

Feel free to lurk or chime in as you see fit. Make sure you call Raptor gay at least once a day though, as well as Kodiak when he talks about his dancing... Unfortunately we are not politically correct here, but that is also Raptor's fault (he IS the CO, no?). Since you are military you quite likely understand our sense of humor... Of course if anyone offends you please do speak up!

We have a wide variety of folks here - age ranges, ethnicity, culture and careers... Only one female member so far - Katana. We play mostly milsims - air combat and tactical first person shooters. There are a few folks with other interests as well though...

Our main goal is to have fun, either chatting on RW or playing games. We rarely play other units as we have banded together as a means to have a consistent, honest, honorable group of folks to play with/against. We like to do well, but we are not Nazi's about that or running the unit. No power trips here, and they are not tolerated.

So welcome once again!

EDIT: Yes, Kat is right. I thought about this on the way home... Dusty and Sabre (sorry you two!). I wish we would see more of the female members - it might help get Nidia interested... ;) :)

Hmmm...well, you see what I mean. Makes you wonder how Raptor thinks of the other male members of the unit as well... ;)

There is much I could say here - but will refrain until you make up your own opinion of this Raptor guy. And I'm sure that won't be too long from now!

I've never been in the military, but I work with them everyday here at Patrick AFB and Cape Canaveral AFS!
The only thing better than the occasional USAF, USN, or USMC fighter flying in here (all we have is C-130s and H-60s) is watching the rockets launch. Only thing better than that is watching the shuttle launch then land again.
Needless to say, last February was quite a dismal time around here. :(

And like anything, much as that sounds great to everyone else, who isn't there, it becomes the norm and not very interesting after a while, eh?! Lucky beggar, I say . . . . .

Hey Blaster,

Welcome aboard. Be glad to fly off your wing anytime. I'm mostly an a2a guy, but I can do a2g when the situation calls for it. A lot of us here are really big on RVS/AS and GR as well.

I have no military experience, but my father served in the Naval reserve for nearly thirty years and retired as Master Chief. Therefore, I spent a good deal of time at Weymouth Naval Air Station here in MA. Got to sit in the cockpit of a few P3s and quickly developed a passion for flying. I've read just about everything a civi can get his hands on and probably some stuff I should'nt have been able to see. I'm an high school English teacher and college prof by profession. Hope to see in you in the sims soon!

Hey Blaster,
I realise that, by now, you're probably sat back assessing everyone, weighing them up, trying to work out who the nice guys are and so on - don't be judging me too harshly now!
You'll have noticed that I simply appear to pop-up everywhere, and put this lot to shame or give them a hard time. Well, you really need to appreciate the slagging-off I get while we're all online gaming (I'm sure it's done spitefully to ruin my concentration - lil' buggers! ) - and since I'm not usually that fast off the mark with my replies, I use the forums here to my advantage instead.
Having said that, on a more serious note, if something is said that you find offensive and don't see the funny side of, then simply let me know - I never intend to offend my friends, and I feel awkward if I do/say something untowardly.

Well, hope your wireless connection works out okay. My sister-in-law had a wireless connection and they thought it was great. As for tomorrow I wish you all the best for Independance Day, hope the weekend goes well.
