Having serious problems....

Post by Hammer_other »

Our ISDN thing is limited to 120 hours a month. If it is exceeded, our Internet access is shut off. This has recently happened, so I'm only able to get on to the forums at school. Also, my gaming rig has seriously f***ed up; I cannot get above 800x600 resolution, and 4 bit color. This is all with no overclocking at all. Anyone wishes to help, the only way you can contact me is by phone. From 14:00 GMT onwards, you can call 01233 861233 (44 being the international code I believe), and just ask for Tim. I'll try a driver reinstall in the meantime, see it I have any luck.

I'll get to you as soon as I have gone through the forums, mate. Wait out!

I was told you called, but my mum deleted the answer phone message. Shame, I'd have called back. Ah well. The problem's sorted itself-loaded the rig up in Safe Mode, reinstalled the Omega drivers, and it fixed. Unfortunately, I started the machine again, and it couldn't find the boot file. Having a delve on the inside, I found I'd knocked out the cable-I'm using a SATA RAid drive! I have another problem now, it says an invalid disc is in the drive, when there is nothing. Anyone who thinks they can help, contact me on the same number after 17:00 GMT today. BTW, I think this is what it says, if anyone calls, I'll just check what it says. I know it says something is invalid.

Having never dealt with SATA drives I couldn't tell you what exactly is wrong. But a quick checklist - makes sure you have nothing in any of your drives that the system may try to pick-up and read, makes sure all your drives are connected correctly (with the power in the off position). Then switch-up and see what happens. If it complains you have an invalid disk I would say it is probably referring to your hard drive. And it is probably indicating that the drive is not formatted, IMHO. 8O That could be a painful experience.
If I have time today, I'll give you a call before hockey practise.
One other thing - if you stepped over your 120hrs of online (This is pathetic! Go find another ISP, mate!) That will have been for last month, not this month, so they owe you your 120 hrs for this month - they can't deny you that, or they are in breach of contract!! Especially if you are paying for it, right! That needs sorting, honestly - pathetic. I'm paying GBP26,- month for broadband with unlimited download.

I know! After doing my research, my dad doesn't appear to be interested in getting BB. Both my sister and I believe that he hasn't called to get reconnected yet, to discipline me, so that I know I can't be OL 24/7. Honestly! Unlike my dad, I do actually have mates OL with whom I have fun (playing games, so don't get any ideas-RAPTOR! ).

Well, mate - that is dads for ya! I do the same sort of thing with Darren if I think it is warranted. But as far as his research over Broadband is concerned - he is WAY off the mark there mate! You guys seriously need to get rid of this ISP you have and get connected with a decent company - stay away from BT ONline too! There are enough advantages to warrant purchasing a broadband set-up. If for no other reason to get away from this limited download nonsense - you are being ripped-off!! Why not get Nemisis' opinion on that too, just to confirm it. There is absolutely NO reason for the ISP to limit your download except to maximise their own profit - do NOT accept this as the norm, or a standard by which to judge each ISP. If they have a d/l limit stated, simply remove them from your list of potential providers mate - no matter WHAT they are offering you. I can't express myself enough on this subject - don't be ripped-off. :x

Will do. My dad believes 1GB is absolutely plenty to cover d/lds, but I'm also absolutely sure that that includes visiting web pages.

COME ROUND TO MY HOUSE WITH A BEATING STICK AND SMASH MY HEAD IN!!!!

I've just realised, I think I left a floppy in the drive, which must be causing the problem!

Dipshit!

Anyway, as far as your dad is concerned - you best explain to him the 1 Gbyte he is thinking about is probably download speed as in GigaBits / sec not total download quantities.

Anyway, all problems resolved. A note to all, as an interim solution before switching ISP and going to Broadband, I'm on a pay-as-you-go system at 3p a minute, an will be almost unable to play. Hopefully we will have Broadband up and running within the next couple of weeks.

At least you can get online and stay posted on what's going on, even if you won't get much of a chance to do any LO-MAC. I'm busy trying - and I DO emphasize trying to mod Madrus' TM Cougar files for LO-MAC. It's a bit complex until you understand what you can or can't do, and there's always something that won't work. I have a habit of saving-out when I should just wait and check, but so eager to test out what I've changed . . . . :? well, I need to get Madrus to send me a new copy of his file so I can start again - I think I might have erased some info that I needed!
