Joint Operations Released
Moderator: RLG MGMT Team
I found (in another forum) a way to edit JO missions using the DF-BHD editor and a converter - so, it's only a matter of time before more missions come out. Also, I'll try to figure out how to use it myself and maybe create some coop missions on the other maps in the game.
Silence is golden - Duct Tape is silver
One possible problem is that DF-BHD did not have a MP coop mode. So maybe it's editor will not be able to make a MP coop mission in JO.

Well, it is looking more and more like I need to purchase this - but so close to G-R2 arriving?? The community reported on and who frequent the boards at Ghostrecon.net are already talking about having their "winding-up" tourney for G-R in light of G-R2's imminent release this early fall!
I'd have to say, given the reviews so far on Joint Ops vs. G-R2 and it's 'pedigree' I'd really prefer to wait-out on G-R2, but if we are looking at using JO instead of G-R2 in our campaigns then I'll need it anyway.
What's the concensus out there guys? How many of us are definitive G-R nuts who ARE purchasing G-R2 regardless?Let's get an idea of numbers here, eh?

JO, my thoughts
I thought the JO session we had last Friday night went extremely well. We worked as a team, completing the mission tasks in a coordinated fashion.
There are a few differences between this and GR: JO has a limited choice of Weapons, you die in JO coop missions, you respawn (Not sure if theres a way to disable this), there is a Medic in JO, that can drop med pack to downed soldiers, allowing them to continue from that spot, as opposed to respawning at one of the spawn points, and best of all, you can pretty much go anywhere do anything on the map(Like OFP, except you can swim in JO), unlike GR where you are funneled through parts of the map. JO has grass textures, which actually seems to give the AI an advantage, cause they can see and shoot you through grass, whereas you visually can't see jack shit when prone in the grass. I imagine for some Team vs Team, the grass would work great, but vs AI, it's lame.
My favorite mission of the night was the Swamp/River mission where you had to board Zodiaks and make your way down a river, fighting hostiles along the way. Very very fun and intense mission. I also like the misison where we had to destroy the satellite dishes, using the Laser designator and 60mm Mortar for Arty. Awesome stuff!
I really think everyone will like this game, is has a mixture of everything we play now. Of all the missions we played, not one involved Aircraft (Helos, hets, etc..). I haven't played through all the coop missions, but I hope at least one of them has some kind of helos or aircraft to fly.
This was our first time playing JO MP in WOF, I have to say it was quite addicting, as we played late into the night, wanting to play more and more missions. I had to force myself to stop playing, I was falling asleep at the keyboard. I hope we can all hook up this week for some more JO fun.

With regard to the editor - The BHD editor does have options for coop - I think only the BHD game UI didn't. Shame really. Last night I created a super-simple coop mission in the BHD editor and ran it in JO ...
I also havent' played through all the coop missions in JO, but since there are flyable aircraft in JO, they'll be in the missions. If they're not in the included 11 coop missions, it's only a matter of time until I or someone adds them. They'd be especially fun on some of the larger maps.

It was a fun session...actually.
Things I like:
-great maps - wide open, good graphics, etc.
-iron sights - awesome, can we disable the reticle (and be foirced ti hip shoot or use iron sights for aimed fire)?
-seemingly good damage model
-weapon loads actually are mostly right with the exception of carrying perhaps a specialty weapon when you should not - but they have an encumbrance model...
Things I do not like:
-respawns and medics
-reticle
-jumping - period, jump down one story and bunny hopping
-easy - the AI is O.K., not better...maybe that is realistic for rebels
-enemy graphics/ragdoll physics - both are pretty sucky if you ask me, the enemy grahics seem to be way to blocky, the ragdoll effects are pretty outrageous
You all pretty much know my feelings about a infantry soldier hopping into a tank and gunning or a helicopter and flying it. That is just ludicrous. The respawns do help with continuing the game pace and no being left out, so that could be a toss up. I do hope we can possibly find a way to make the AI more competent/smart. If we design missions and remove ammo areas, we should see about being able to increase the ammo load, as soldiers tend to do in the real world (one never wants to run out of bullets).
This game will be awesome for force on force games...as long as we can find each other on the huge maps (that is a plus). I can see us playing for an hour and not seeing the other team - somewhat realistic there...
I suggest anyone not having the game get it if you can...

i don't think it would be too much trouble to do force-on-force - just make sure there's a "common" goal so that neither team can really camp out and wait without a reason for the other team to visit.
as long as we're talking unrealistic, what about being able to swim with a mortar/stinger/law strapped to your back? Can anyone say "boat anchor?" We should probably have at least a gentleman's agreement not to swim if so encumbered.
You can set a lot of things about the enemies in the editor - perhaps the default missions are just not set too tough. You can make the enemies more or less accurate on a case-by-case basis. You can have enemies only show up if there are more or less than a certain number of humans so that if there were 6 of us playing, it would spawn more baddies. You can set their max engagement range, attitude, awareness, etc.
You can't disable respawns (as far as I can tell), but you can put in a delay so that you can't just respawn instantly (not sure why we'd want to do that). I know you can disallow medics. That's easy.
There's not a reticle setting for the server, but each player can definitely disable the crosshair and we can agree to do that when we play. I just tried that and it's definitely tougher.
Anyway - I just made my first custom mission and drove around the map and flew around the map. Pretty cool. I set up fog and stuff, but I can't figure out how to make the sky look nice ... it's just black! Still learning.

Well, I've finally got this game today, and I still have to set-up myTacBoard. Which may take a while, but let you all know when I'm ready. Are there any patches or mods I need? And where can I find a link for them if there are?
As far as swimming is concerned - you could definitely do it with a LAW (cos I has done it!! Get me? Bling! ), but I'm not so sure about the Stinger though - as far as the mortar is concerned, you could probably swim with the launch tube, but the base plate? Let's just say you'd have to one seriously big lad, although our water obstacle crossing techniques DO allow us to carry large items of that nature - I'm sure it's done on a regular basis by our infantry boys . I'll ask around, and see what the general consensus is with the infantry lads here.

Patches
Kodiak,
Just use the ingame update feature. If that doesn't work for you(Madrus had a problem with it), you can just DL the patch from their web site.

Sorted with the ingame update - thx SB.
Am I right in believing you can't do anything in the SP mode until you've done all the training? or isn't there anyt SP in this game?
