Post by PanzerMeyer »

Hey guys. Just wanted to say I had blast playing this past Friday night. Hopefully DA learned some new skills with that Mortar. :P

Think I scared myself enough than to have to worry about DA with the mortar mate! 8O Sometimes I couldn't even get to the fight without getting myself shot.

He was a little scary with the mortar. Although, I should remind that I wiped out Steel and probably Madrus the first time I tried the mortar - It has a suprisingly large blast radius ...

Well, I enjoy trying out different weapons. But draw the line at something like that, cos I know I'd be a disaster. :D

If someone has a laser designator aimed at a target and someone put it just right I could part a hair on a cats ass with one round.
I am definately getting better.

Now there is something I haven't seen any of us try out yet - the laser designator! Has anyone actually tried this? And if so, did it work? Or have we not had any missions which require that yet? Surely it would work for the SAM emplacements we have to destroy . . . . :?

we did use it - steel used it to designate a sam site to destroy. All it does is put a spot on the map where the mortar should aim - in the case where the mortar firer can't see the target. It doesn't make the mortar fire any more accurate. Plus - from what we could tell, you can't use it to take out sams ...

Sounds to me like it's just a load of bollox then! 8O I was sure there was supposed to be the ability to call in Arty support & CAS, maybe I just read the preview wrong then. I mean, you tell me a mortar round that is actually laser guided . . . . . .and I ain't talkin some bullshit prototype that never made it either?!

When me and Panzer worked as a team(panzer forward observer and I am at the controls of the mortar) panzer has reported rounds hitting almost exactly where he wanted them. On one instance he designated right between two guys chatting and when that round came screeching down he reported two boggies flying in the air after the round hit right between the two so IMHOP it is very accurate and effective when laser designating.

DA - I agree. It's a useful wep, but I don't think it's effective at destroying objects that need "satchel"ing.

Plus - the "designator" is not a laser designator in the sense of a bomb from an F/A-18 being guided to the target, but in the sense of giving a target location to the mortar launching person as an aimpoint. It won't actually guide the mortar round to the target.

Well that, IMHO is very unprofessional of Novalogic then. It should not be labelled as a LTM, but given some other name or label. I suppose it has a description somewhere as to the use of the item?

Your right Gator, its more of a pinpointing a position to the mortarman so he can calibrate the mortar to hit within a closer proximity of the aimpoint.

That figures I would miss all the fun. Sorry I missed out on Friday night.

I am now an Alpha Tester for Guild Wars(WOOT!), and they have "All Calls" on Wednesday and Friday nights. Last Friday night was not supposed to go past 8pm PST, but it ended up being a long night as we were testing the PvP system. By the time we finished with GW, I logged into RW and nobody was there. I don't remember what time it was, but it was late.

DA and Mortar sounds scarey as hell. 8O I bet DA had a great time finally playing a MP coop session of JO. What's your opinion now DA?

Well, there is a one line description in the Joint Ops manual. But i am assuming you have read the manual, ehh Kodiak?

Now Madrus, what in the hell gave you such a senseless idea? I don't need to read bloody manuals, if it says it's a gun, then it's a gun - pick up from right end , aim (nowhere in particular), pull trigger, watch for effect . . . . . . Damn! What do you take me for, some kind of amateur? I don't have time to wade through countless paragraphs of bullshit with someone teaching me to suck eggs.
( . . . back in a mo, just gonna check the manual) Guess I was expecting a little too much from it since it only has the designation Target Designator - blah blah blah mortar blah blah. :(

Yeah, manual is not very helpful.
