Aside from the banter and fun-poking though, you're right it doesn't tell much. That wasn't what disappointed me though, it was the fact it was exactly as you said - for the mortar. :(
I had hoped it might have been a proper Laser Target Marker unit, having never even given it a second thought before, I reckoned that would be cool, marking targets for strike missions by air. But, alas it was not to be. Would be a real cool mod though! 8)

They have a pair of those in UT2k4. One calls in a beam from an orbiting satellite--a very cool "death ray." The other calls in this lumbering bomber who lays down a string of big bombs. There is of course a delay between designation and destruction, so it's not good against fast-moving targets.

According to PlanetUnreal, the 'death ray' is a multi-gigawatt orbital ion cannon.

Just my 2 cents.

I love JO now long as your playing with the right people. I still enjoy playing online with a massive crowd. I've learned to sit tight and just wait for them to come to me or passed me.

I jumped on an international server for a few minutes, and just watched all the chaos going on! Total madness mate - these people should be playing something stupid like Quake 3 or UT!  Stay away from the soldiering properly games like JO, cos that is what they are designed for - not friggin run'n'gun crap. If the same people were to do that in real life they would die very quickly as we all know, problem is THEY don't realise that! 8O

. . . . . . and finally!! Steel himself is caught out by the great meister of sarcastic wit and dry sense of humour! Since when did I sell up and the likes Mr. Steel? You know as well as the rest that I am usually last to buy, last to change, because I am so cautious about what to get - unlike Herr Softball, our resident software guinea pig!

I was looking thru the July issue of Playboy(reading the articles of course) and I saw an advertisement for a new game FPS. I don't remember the name but I think this is a single player/COOP game that the ARMY is putting out. They advertised that you will control Alapha and Bravo team and there actions depend on your decisions and judgement, also I think they said that(and a picture in the advertisement) you can carry wounded out of the battle fireman style ofcourse, so I will pick up another copy(I was getting my car washed and there it was) and see what we got and get the name. So everybody pick up a copy of the July Playboy and all you married types just tell your wives its for research and or the articles. 8O

The game is "Full Spectrum Warrior" ... it's been out for XBox for a few months now. I have it as well as Softball. It's a great game. Seems extremely realistic. It's NOT an FPS ... it's a squad-game ... strategy style. It comes out on PC soon. In the xbox, you can do 2-player coop MP where each player controls a 4-man team. In SP mode, you control 2 4-man teams in an desert urban setting to complete goals. Very well done.

I quite like the idea of a 3rd person perspective game where you control a sabre team of special forces on missions. YOU kit them out - weapon type, ammo quantity etc., YOU give them mission priorities and re-prioritise, YOU set-up replen, and so on. Then you watch them undertake the mission in a 3rd person perspective with the ability to interact as everything pans out, as the team lead - giving orders to individuals, call-in of maybe air support (CAS or Arty or ?). I guess you could go the whole hog, by having the options to choose what type of team to start with, select your characters for the team, then train them up in the deficiencies you consider your team to have for future operations. Then once you are finished training them in their skill deficiencies, you receive your orders and theatre of operations, and eventually you would be given fresh orders to move theatres as they do in real life - in UK each sabre squadron has to rotate through anti-terrorist and all other responsibilities. Your team's growing experience, rank, responsibilities, and decorations is dependant upon how well they do in each theatre and that mission set, ans so they will do better or worse. Add to that - inter-squadron transfers, new troopers fresh in from training, and of course the SBS element to widen the spectrum of operations - I'd say you have a game there! Okay, patent-pending you bastards, that's my idea!

(Over here when we include the Parachute regiment in the special forces listings, it's usually under the same understanding as "special children"! )

Disclaimer: The above comments are made to slag-off the Parachute regiment, not to take the piss out of unfortunate children.

Apparently there's a new R6 out as well-can't remember the name, kept getting pop-up ads for it on a certain site.

I don't suppose it wil. That's what really bugs me about Halo 2-I've been looking forward to it for 6 months now, and then I find, not only is it not coming out till Nov 9th, but it's only out on X at first, and, surprise surprise,

I DON'T HAVE ONE!!!!

Look at it like this - at least you can focus what dosh you have on something else you want instead. 8) I have a whole list of other things I want, so I have no problem thinking up something else to buy.

I can't picture myself bothering with an Xbox. The games that come out on it that I want are usually also on the PC and play better there (KOTOR, Halo, etc). Games that are console-only are usually the kind of game I don't like.
The exceptions are instances like this one of Black Arrow. Is it more or less Athena Sword with some changes, or is it all new? If all new, why not put it out for RvS for the PC as an addon?? Historically, Redstorm games all get a minimum of 2 addons since the first R6 which only had one.

Whatever, I'm playing Doom 3 for now!!
