For those of you who have Doom 3...

Post by Hammer_other »

I've come across some quite decent mods out there. The flashlight ones only work with certain weapons (most commonly pistol + shotgun), but I've used a couple of good ones:

Security Bot mod: Allows you to spawn security bots with either flashlights or guns. Only problem-all the bots you meet at first, follow you. I had to kill some off to avoid lagging.

Enhancement: Improves the 'ragdoll' physics, bodies are no longer 'gibbable', but vanish after a few minutes. New sounds for shotgun and Pinky.

If you want the links, post.

Also, what cards do you lot have, and what graphics tweaks are you implementing? I'd just like to know, so I can try sorting Doom 3 out. Running a little slow sometimes on the lowest detail settings.

I've got a 9800, non-Pro. At 1024x768 at High Detail I do ok (30fps in timedemo) because I edited the doom.cfg file and set the aniso filtering to 2x instead of the default 8x!

I found the flashlight mod and an early coop mod, have yet to try either one.

Where is the Anisotropic section? I can't find it in the .cfg file

I'm just rather busy atm. The reason I show up on MSN, is when I restart my comp, and It automatically logs me in. I close it again once I am able to.

What? And don't even say hello? I'll give ya busy! How can you be busy anyways? You go to school, and you're on holidays at the mo? LOL! Wish I was that busy, mate. Hehe!
Well, keep in touch now and again. Hope you're also managing to enjoy some of the disc content of the ones I sent you. Most of it is proabably stuff we'll never use, but at least you got it. On that point - get your G-R install up to speed and then send those G-R discs on to Nemisis, once you get his address. He needs to have something ground-based, so he can join in at times of "no flying", and he already has G-R. We always enjoyed G-R didn't we? And from what I understand G-R 2 is looking to be a bit of a disappointment, never mind another 5 months away yet. If Nem get's "into" the ground-based FPS thing, he may wish to opt for something we are all playing. Who knows, that might all happen at the same time as we are buying something that's just come out - so we would all be current, in at least one FPS and one flight sim.
Talking of flight sims, Fighter Ops are showcasing some of their intended in-flight comms effects over at their site. It's not bad to be honest, and will certainly add to the overall immersion within the environment they are trying to create. At the end of the day, it's all about fooling the senses within a virtual reality.
