ICQ, do we still use it really?

Post by Grifter »

Do we still use ICQ? The way I arrange for a game, typically, is the forums and checking RW. ICQ is a last resort. If we still need a messenger service, why not switch to a more common one? Since it's integral to xp anyway, as in its more trouble to remove it than it is to keep it, why don't we just use MSN messenger and have done with it? Well just a thought, did'nt feel like reinstalling it because it does'nt seem like we really use; however, if ppl still use it I'll reinstall it.

The biggest problem is people simply not switching it all on. Everyone just relies on watching the forums I'd guess.

ICQ

Post by Softball »

I have my ICQ on daily while at work. I mightnot be able to talk, but I leave it on incase someone wants to talk to me about something.

I hardly use it at home unless I am looking for someone to play a game, it uses up my precious bandwidth if I leave it on. With 3 computers accessing the net, the bandwidth is slim as it is.

So, yes, I still use ICQ, just not 24/7 at home.

I still use it but not for talking as such moe to check and see who is around when i want to ge ta flight going and no-one has responded on the forums.

I also have MSN messenger though, but use this for the same purpose, if no-one is on the forums the ICQ and MSN get fired up to see if anyone is there followed by RW but if no-one is there i shut them down again just as quick usually.

I use ICQ frequently. I have assumed all of us use it to back up our RW comms.

And some people have ONLY ICQ, Hades for example. I don't think I've ever seen him on the forums

I haven't used it so much recently, as I usually only have time Friday night to join so I just show up, but I use ICQ as well. Don't use MSN.

I use ICQ pretty much only for file transfers and the ocassional chat with Jedi, Softball, etc.

A good friend of mine from high school though used ICQ quite often and met his Russian fiancee that way. LOL.

Just to let you guys know that I've reinstalled ICQ for the sake of it. Since I'm going to have it on my comp though, I intend on using it. I'll try and leave it up more often in hopes of catching you guys to chat or get a quick game in. Later.

Grif,
Try Trillian... It connects to all of the other messenger services with one application...and you can have all of your messaging apps in one... Just do a google on trillian.

Hey Steel,

In order for this to work, do I still have to have this other messaging services installed on my comp?

no, just trillian. you do have to set it up with your usernames and passwords for the other services, but once set up you do not need them any more. if you want to create a new account, you will need the actual messaging service software for that also...
