Full Spectrum Warrior (First MP coop experience)

Post by Softball »

Last night Gator and I played FSW in MP coop for the first time since I bought it. It was probably the most fun I have ever had on a console game. In FSW you control 2 teams, Alpha and Bravo. In MP coop, if you are the host you control Alpha, and the client Bravo. Your team is a 4 man fire team, you give them movement commands, covering fire commands, overlap movement commands and so on. The AI does all the firing of the weapons, you just tell them which direction and sometimes which weapon(Grenades, Grenade launcher, etc).

On one of the missions we had last night, we had to make our way through the city to eliminate an RPG nest/bunker (sand bags) so that the convoy we were with could continue the mission through the city. At one point, I would provide covering supression fire so that Gator could move into a better position to take out the RPG nest. Gator moved up to a corner of a wall section that was across from the RPG nest, but with enough cover to keep him from direct view and gave hime some cover. Gator began providing covering supression fire so that I could cross an area that was exposed to the RPG nest. Well, during my movement phase, the RPG guy launches an RPG at Gator's position, blowing the wall section he was behind to rubble and killing his entire squad. We were like O M G ! ! It was so realistic, it was like being there or like being in a movie. I was trying to save the replay of it, but the mission has already restarted from the last save point.

There are some situations where you really have to think about how to approach a certain area. Like an alley with wooden crates for cover. If you were to get fired on and hide behind the crates, they would eventually get shot up into pieces and your cover would be destroyed. Causing you to retreat, find new cover, or be killed.

I hope the PC version of this game is such that you can make your own missions, or have at least some team vs team aspect to it. Seeing as this started as a console game, I don't see that happening.

Anyway, just thought I'd share our MP coop experience with FSW with the rest of you. It was very entertaining to play. Perhaps Gator will share his thoughts here as well.

We did have a great time. When that guy shot the rpg at me i see this smoke trail and it's coming right at me ... I knew my team was dead.

You really have to manage your resources carefully. If you spend too much time suprressing, your team will run out of ammo and you're screwed.

If you get a guy wounded, you have to have one of your guys carry him, so you're only half strength ... Case from last night: Softball got one of his guys popped and instead of having a 4-man team and a 2-man team (1 guy carrying the wounded guy), I had my healthy team grab his wounded and we moved out with 2 3-man teams.

It's VERY satisfying when you see the other team move around a building and flank the guy you have pinned behind a dumpster. The flanking team usually ends up with an open, easy shot on an unprotected angle of the tango.
