I'm guessing the only real way to get rid of it is to upgrade. I get it too. Having said that, I had a similar thing with ICQ, so I upgraded. And not only did it fail to install over my previous version, when it was finished installing, it STILL claimed I needed to upgrade to the newer version which I already had installed!! It's just as bad as friggin pop-ups or spyware IMHO.

Steel if you goto the setup options in Ventrillo then select the global tab at the top it shows you one option "check for new version" uncheck this and your problem is solved!

might work for me, except that i have no Global tab in setup and thus i dont have that option. i am running version 2.1.3
