I know I've been a bit inactive lately, something to do with going back to school, playing AA with my clan, and the to-be-playing-Halo 2-every-waking-hour that will occur in 1 day 3 hours and 3 minutes. I have just dropped this line to say that my broadband will be FUBAR for the next several days. How's this for a story:
My dad pays BT to come in and set up the wiring, router, and all the bells and whistles. This cost includes both the man-hours, and the equipment (eg router). He then pays for 3 months worth of broadband access, to Eclipse (our ISP), at about £18 per month. Well, our internet stopped working about 3 days ago. My dad phoned BT yesterday, and was told he owed them £440. They didn't say why he had to pay this. And once this is paid, he must also pay a reconnection fee.
WTF?!?!?!
Now, do YOU think this is complete rip-off?
BTW, I am running on a 56k pay-as-you-go service at 3p per minute at the moment, as a temporary solution. Back to the good old days it seems...

Absolutely disgraceful - it is a basic right to know what you have to pay for! If they cannot produce that, he is return has no need to pay. Anyone can tell you that. There are also other complications here in breach of consumer rights - but basically I would give them 48Hrs to return a suitable answer and after that go legal!
I suspect that you only know part of the story, but nonetheless. Have to say I would have done it all myself, it really is NOT that complicated. But GBP440,- sounds like a piss-take. Something like BT themselves to be honest.
