Heh, that was easy.

HALF LIFE 2!!!!

I mean, even if Halo 2 is improved over the original, even if GTA is open-ended, HL2 has everything: story, graphics, gameplay, voice acting.
I played the original Halo and thought it "eh." It was a decent sci-fi shooter, but I liked Unreal 2 better because it had better characters, better FX, and no annoying "Library" levels or Flood enemies. :)
Still have to get around to playing Chrome...and Indiana Jones...

Jedi,
Wow, I agree. HL2 is a real gem. I couldn't believe the human models and animation and voicing. incredible. The physics model is fun too. I love throwing a cinder-block at a cop and having him chase me and hit me with his cattle prod. I didn't think they could do it, but this game blows everything away. I keep reminding myself that this game was basically "in the can" more than a year ago. And it's still better looking than Far Cry, Doom 3 or anything else for that matter.

*Agrees with the HL2 comments*

I played HL2 to my hearts content last night. However, I was not too happy with the 45 minute install of everything (HL2, CS, HL) and then waiting for the files to be unlocked, etc etc, sheesh what a royal pain in the ass. I feel so sorry for everyone that has a slow computer and has to install all of this, oh man!

I think I spent more of my time trying to find easter eggs, seeing what I could do and get away with (Walking up to the guards and having them push me back) rather than following the storyline. In the campaign, I am at the beginning of the canal (Right after you pass all the Barnacles hanging down in front of the walkway to the canal). It a VERY VERY well done FPS, I am amazed at the amount of detail that was put into this. What's with the flying things that fly around and take your picture or something? They fall pretty easy to the receiving end of my crowbar. :D I like when you kill one of the police and there is this sound of an EKG heartbeat sensor flat-lining. The AI is pretty smart too, no longer do you shoot at the AI and run around the corner and wait for them to stupidly run after you. They stop, get into a more tactical position, and wait for YOU to come back. Very cool!

You can pickup almost anything in the game that moves, chairs, cups, boxes, tables, crates, etc.. You even have to pickup and move some crates to proceed in the campaign. I'm still trying to figure out who Barney (Guard from HL) the police officer(undercover for your side) looks like. I want to say Bruce Campbell, but I'm not positive.

If you have the hardware to run HL2, I highly recommend getting it. HL2 HAS to get Game of the Year 2004, hands down.

I bought the game from Steam and it was preloaded on my pc over the last couple weeks. I didn't have any issues. It was already installed. As for unlocking it, it was unlocked when I got home last night and I just fired it up. From my POV, Steam was the way to go. No CDs for me to feed, etc. Tonight I will tell it to create a backup of itself and burn it onto a dvd. It writes a self-extracting backup of itself.

Good to see all you guys are impressed by it. I thought I was the only one interested in playing this game - I bought a copy of it for my wife for her birthday, and she's been on playing each night since.
Guess I best get up to speed myself sometime soon.

Neither were choices in this poll. It was half console games, half PC.

Like I give a crap about console games. So that right there eliminates half of the list for me! :o
