Whatcha all playing?

Post by Hudson »

Hey guys; long time no good internet access. I requested an East Coast duty station when asked, unfortunately I think the USMC thought I meant Far East Coast, so I'm headed to Japan. Basically all I plan on doing for about the next year is playing video games and exercising to become super strong so I can apply for MSG and make it through the training, cause my current job makes me not so happy. Of course, being married presents problems with those plans, but fortunately there are waivers for everything; including the nonwaverable things. I swear to God if the USMC decided who lived and who died when you could get a waiver to live forever...

But for now its to 1st MAW (Marine Aircraft Wing) for me. Don't know if I'll be on the Chair Force base (which there are some Marine Squadrons on) or the actual Marine Corps base yet, but either way I should be near some really damn cool jets, and I'll be sure to take some pictures if the opportunity presents....

But enough of that. Since I'm going to Japan I just bought an uuber new laptop to take with me, and was wondering if you all play any good ground combat games I can pick up to play with ya'll on Friday nights (ok itll be saturday mornings for me...) ?

Thats about all I got for now, unless you want boot camp, grenade throwing, anti-tank missiling, machine gun firing stories... ya the USMC has been a real trip so far.

Talk to you all soon,
PFC Montleon a.k.a Hudson

P.S. Can't forget the stats for the laptop icon_biggrin.gif

Hudson,
nice to hear from you... sounds like things are o.k., but maybe not all you expected? what is msg?

we have been playing a lot of IL2/PF lately...not much ground combat really. Friday's used to be OFP, but it has migrated to IL2/PF lately. Joint Ops and Escalation might be a choice occasionally, as well as OFP. I bet you would not have to try too hard in asking.

what kind of internet access will you have over there? any idea?

Hey Hudson,

I saw one of those laptops yesterday. I just drooled. Very nice.

I'm doing some work with 3rd MAW/MAG11/VMFAT101 (I'm a DON civilian aero engineer) at Miramar, so i have a healthy respect for Marines. Hope your time in Japan goes well.

Steel covered our current crop of sims pretty well.

Hope we'll see you online.

Stuff

I wanted to go infantry, but they stuffed me in Supply. I requested no less than 6 times and volunteered once to go infantry, but they said that they need Supply people too much to let them go infantry. Not all is bad though; one of the former infantry Gunnery Sergeants here tells us the first person in his unit to kill an Iraqi was a Supply Marine on post.

MSG - Marine Security Guard, (Master Sergeant is MSgt) they're the guys that guard the embassies. Lots of weapons handling, some physical, some ettiquette, some other stuff. Anyone can apply or volunteer for MSG when the screeners come around.

The bit about being married is that you must be a Staff Sergeant before you can apply for MSG, for who knows why. Otherwise you can be a LCpl. But as I said, they'res' waivers to get the waiver for the other waiver in the military. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a way to do it sooner.

My other alternative is one of the enlisted to commissioning programs available, as I already have 2+ years of a BS degree done. Heard some interesting stuff about the naval academy. But that's another road I can explore.

Long story short if I don't like my job, there's no excuse for not getting another job. :D

i had a difficult time getting into the infantry as well - regular light infantry that is. my first tour was as a mortarman...

and yes, there are waivers for just about everything...

commissioning route may not be a bad way to go... MC officers are probably some on the finest...although i am sure there are some idiots as well. Naval Academy will put you through some BS, but it is a great education.

Hammer,
MSG is the abbreviation for Master Sergeant in the Army. One, since Hudson is in the marines I knew that was not it. Two, since Hudson just went in there is no possible way he could be a Master Sergeant. You also can not apply for rank, you achieve it through time and performance (and politics at the highest ranks).

Hudson,

I sent you a detailed list of what we play, did you not get it? Ah well, my suggestion would be to get OFP as a back up game. Make sure to get the Game of the Year edition. But, I would go out and buy all the IL2 games and do a proper install and fly WWII sim with us! we're having a blast with it.

Of course I got it. But you want me to FLY. I want games where I can rack the charging handle back and pound ground!

Yeah, we haven't been ground pounding a lot lately. Not to say we won't again soon because we probably will with OFP or a newer ground sim. In the meantime, get your ass in the cockpit and fly with us instead! We're having a blast shooting down enemy WWII a/c. hehe After all, first and foremost, we're a flight sim group. CMACG= combined modern aircraft group. We're also flying Falcon 4 with addons.

Hey

Hey Hudson, congrats on making it through Boot Camp. Those DI's are tough buggers. I just kept my mouth shut and did what I was told and made it through just fine. My favorite part of USMC recruit training was the rifle range and SOI after boot camp.

I too was in supply, I was a 3043 Supply Admin Pencil pusher. Yea it sounds like a real boring job, but let me tell you, you are in SUPPLY. All things that have to do with requesting new equipment and food go through supply. So guess what? You get first dibs on all the cool ass new gear and the best MREs to pick from. :D I even got my military drivers licence and was licensed to drive anything up to a 5 ton truck. Having a military license is a good thing, you get to DRIVE everywhere instead of walk. Trust me, after 6 years or so of service, you will be sick of walking. Lol!

Like everyone else here has stated, we have been playing IL2 FB and Pacific Fighters. I would not mind playing some OFP again, as the mod we are using is the best we have used since OFP was released. Make sure you have the OFP GOTY edition and then check the OFP forums for the necessary addon files.

Good luck over in Japan, at least it's not in that Sandbox called Iraq.

Good to hear from you.

oh ya.. Supply and Commo. I have found that the services are always in need of those soldiers given that they are needed in every unit down to the single company.
