Swat 4 coming to stores

Post by PanzerMeyer »

I'll be getting it. Who else here is getting SWAT 4? I guess this will replace our long forgotten and beloved Raven Shield?

Ships Ahoy - SWAT 4 [April 5, 2005 - 2:10 pm EDT]
VU Games announces that SWAT 4 has deployed, and the tactical police shooter sequel should be available in the U.S. feel free to hum the SWAT theme to yourself as you peruse the details:

SWAT™ 4, the latest edition of the popular award-winning SWAT franchise, has shipped for the PC to retail outlets nationwide. Developed by Irrational Games, SWAT 4 allows players to take control of a squad of up to five SWAT officers tasked with performing dangerous operations such as high risk warrant service, rapid deployment, barricaded suspects and hostage situations. To ensure authenticity, VU Games enlisted Ken Thatcher, a 24-year SWAT veteran, as the game’s consultant.

From intense hostage situations to high risk undercover operations, players will tactically command their teams and address every situation differently, where a split second mistake could lead to failure. Tension is the key element of SWAT 4, and the game emphasizes tactical deployment over pure run-and-gun action. Proper use of a broad range of real police gear, including tactical mainstays such as the Colt M-4 carbine, the Benelli M4 Super 90 shotgun and Surefire tactical lights, will help the team to overcome any obstacle, rescue endangered civilians, and bring the bad guys to justice.

SWAT 4’s 14 single-player missions feature random enemy placement ensuring the player’s experience is different each time the level is played. Players can also use the quick mission maker to create and customize missions, including modification of enemy and civilian AI, mission objectives and more. SWAT 4 includes extensive multiplayer functionality including co-operative modes and team based competitive modes with up to 16 players.

SWAT 4 carries a suggested retail prices of $49.99 for the PC and has been rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB. For additional information please visit www.swat4.com.

It's not Rainbow Six 4, of course. The objective here is to subdue the criminals, which we did about once a week in RvS, as opposed to blowing them away. You still can, but you get slapped with "unlawful use of force" debriefs which lower your score.
Apparently the scoring in the game is STRICTER than real life, according to the former SWAT guys who've played the game.

Swat 4

I asked when Swat 4 would be coming out at my local EB and they say it ships today, should be in stores tomorrow. I will be getting it (of course), and I will probably uninstall RvS when I install Swat 4. I can't remember the last time we played RvS, I think it's time to put it on the shelf.....for now.

I picked up Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for PC today, I will be digging into this later tonight. :D

who cares about scores??? it is just a number. i said somewhere else you can NOT arbitrarily assign a number to something as nebulous as a mission success failure.

regardless, i do not think i will get this one unless you all rave about it a lot...

I'll second Steel on this one. I've got too many games right now.

I think the point is RvS is a dead weasel, so this is a good replacement. Very similar combat/situations, but nothing like JO or OFP.
