Hi.
now its time for me to choose what i want to do in the future i have 5 months left in service and i got pappers to sign if i want to begin the officer academy (not sure how to explain) the only problem is that i dont know what to branch or what i want to do. one thing is Airforce would be cool to fly a JAS 39 gripen or AJS 37 Viggen but the chance they would pick me is not that huge, It would also be cool to search for Airborne Rangers in army or one of the tank brigades i think the last one is the biggest chance for me to be accepted in Helos are also cool.
I still dont have my military grade but sofar so good.
so what to do? is it better to try for Pilot it is a very small chance i will make it or is it better to take something that i have a mutch greater chance on?

my question is can you select more than one and if one dosen't accept you if the later is not the case can you make another choice...If you have the option of either then you need to explore them by choosing flight school and making the others second, but if you were in the United States armed services your first choice would be your last because thats how they usually work it out. Funny ain't it.

Hades,
What do you really want to do? Not what you think is cool...what you want to do? Can you try to get some time to go spend with a Company Commander of an armor brigade? infantry brigade? Can you get some time to go spend with an Air Force pilot? Can you get some time to go spend with a attack helo pilot? transport helo pilot? If you explain to the commanders of these units what you are doing (trying to pick a career option) I bet they will be more than happy to help if they can.
If you want to make it a career, definitely go for officer. It will be political at times, and sometimes might even be demeaning due to demands of superior officers, but you will end up better off.
I am sure if you select air force pilot, you will be tested prior to going to that school. If you do not make it in the testing phase you will have other options (like armor or infantry or maybe even rotary wing pilot - does the army or air force fly your rotary wing assets?). If you do make it into the pilot training, you already know only the cream of the crop get the fighters...you could end up flying transports, refuelers, etc. That may also not be a bad thing...depending upon what you really want to do.
If you select army, you will get a combat command eventually. Just remember there are a LOT of staff positions as well, and you will have to serve in some of those too...prolly not so much if you go for rotary wing pilot.
So the big question and decision you have is what do you really want to do? If you want to fly, go for it. If you like commanding men in combat, go for that... I always wanted to fly and had an appt. for the Air Force Academy...but then found my eyes were not good enough to maek the grade as a pilot. So I dropped the whol things and went enlisted in the Army...infantry. Never regretted it and had a lot of fun (MOST of the time ).

Hi
Hi.
THanks for the support and good advices, my captain have told me he will write a recomendation that i will get tried for officer, i got my grades for halftime (not sure what to call it) and so far only one guy on my platoon had better, in sweden to go to officer academy you will have to go throu a series of tests specially since sweden doesent have a big army this days its hard to get picked, In sweden they do like this if your intrested in Ranger regiment then you write on the papper that you want to go there and then you have to choose if you want to work as staff, signals, combat´.... and other stuff they have on the regiment, what im trying to say is that you dont try to apply for academy you apply for the regiment and say they need 20 more officers they pick the 20 best on the applications and they will send you to the academy.
Pilot you first have to do some tests it takes around 5 days and since we dont have a big airforce either i think around 400 jets they only take in a few a year, i think totaly they take in 400 for officer academy evry year.
