Firemane, when i recently formatted my HD i had a look at the mechy folder to see what was worth saving i.e what is the most important folder, the biggest. I found that if you save your 'resources' folder, in the main MW4 folder, this contains all of your variants (for MW and BK) and also all of your maps, both original and custom ones. It took up 3 of my cds tho (the folder was about 1.8gb) so you have to be careful about which folders you are putting cos oyu may have to split one or two, especially the 'missions' folder.
Hope this helps mate, it worked okay for me..........one more note of caution, something i noticed yesterday. If i go in to mechlab and try to change any of the variants that i saved to disk, it boots me back to desktop whn i try to save the changes. You can make changes to any configs you make up after your reinstall, but it looks like you cant change your old configs.....not much of a problem tho and worth the hassle rather than having to redownload/install all your maps, missions etc.

Glas,

Thanks a lot for offering that information. I went ahead and backup up the resources folder, then I did all the uninstalls. THen I swept the registry then did a defrag for good measure. I'll proceed with the reinstalls & Mech Pack & the patch and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks again, mate.

Personally Firemane I would go for a completely clean install. As the Resources folder contains nearly all the additional material for MW its probably where the problem lies. Its not a great deal of work to re install the maps etc and is less time consuming than trying to chase the fault. If you are attached to some of your Mech configs I woiuld just copy their file or just re do them again. Most of us only have about 4 mechs we drive all the time and the all the other ones we built never see the light of day.

This is the route I took after the patch hacked my MW to death and I've had no problems at all since.

You mention MW patch 3 above. If you have BK you will need BK patch 1. The 3 patch is solely for pilots who only own MW Vengeance. The BK patch 1 updates both MW and obviously BK.

Hope it all goes well mate.

Thanks, Lancer. I was considering doing just that- redoing all the mechs & maps to be on the safe side. And as far as most of my designs go, they ended up as smoldering heaps of bubbling myomer!

Far as the BK patch goes, I *thought* the IS Mech Pack also ran a patch for BK. But you are saying I need to run something else as well? Sorry, all the patch names are running together! I did download the big patch off the Mechwarrior site for combined MW/BK installs...would running that make me current?

Firemane, the patch you need is included in the IS mech pak as far as i am aware (tho this then begs the question.......what if you have MW4 and the mech pak, but no BK......how does it know what patch to use i.e BK1 or MW pr3??)
Anyone know how this works out?
