Wow mIRC wasnt half busy when i stumbled home at 2:30 in the morning. Sorry for being so incoherent, i was of course force fed copious amount of alcohol by so called friends who were attempting to get me inebriated......needless to say, it worked ;)
Then, i had a brainstorm. Trying to get in to MW4, my computer wouldnt play ball again cos of the new joystick. Just as the unit was hovering over the window ledge for a 20 foot drop, i thought it would be better formatting and trying again. Stupid idea Now ive wiped everything but i bet i am still no nearer to solving my problem. Anyone have any idea at all how i can stop MW4 from insisting that i use my bloody j/s to play it? If i dont get it going my only option is to stop playing cos i just cant use the j/s in the game, its unworkable for me. And im not uninstalling my j/s, i only just bought it and i need it for another of my games. In fact, uninstalling doesnt even work cos thats what i done last night to test it and the game still wouldnt work. In the menu screen, my mouse was inoperable! It would move about the screen okay, but pressing the button brought a nil response.
If anyone has any suggestions (apart from the 20 foot drop off the window ledge) id be glad to hear them. Its getting to the point where im giving up trying now. Im going to head over to M$ and see if they have any solutions to the problem. Somehow, i doubt it

that is a problem somewhere else...if the mouse does not work in the menu screen, 'cause the joystick in not enabled yet (for game purposes).
when i am playing, both my mouse and joystick are active and functional at the same time...so it is something else.
what kind of joystick?
what kind of mouse?
are you SURE you have the latest drivers for each?
what O.S.?
ensure you have that little checkbox next to "Mouse" turned orange, it is about two thirds down the left side of the controls page in options.
All obvious, but hope it helps...

Thx Steel. I can get mouse and keyboard working with the joystick plugged in but some controls are still taken over by the joystick and the screen kinda 'jumps'.
Im going to try installing it now to see what happens, im not confident tho.

p.s its a laser mouse thingy and the j/s is a Saitek Cyborg 3D Digital. I have the most up to date drivers for the j/s.

It never rains but it pours
Think i managed to work out how to stop the joystick interfering. Ive simply changed the X axis and Z axis functions to 'none'. However, now my Black Knight wont run! I have done a clean install with no background programs running but the game just hangs when it is first being booted up. No error msg or nothing, just hangs then i have to do ctrl+alt+delete to stop it running.
Ive looked at the M$ website which suggested it was a problem with the install and to reinstall with nothing else running in the background. Ive done that tho, to no avail :-/
The annoying thing is that after the install, it says it has installed successfully. Hah!!
Lancer, any chance of heading up here with one of your guns? Anything that will make a hole big enough for me to put my boot through it should do.

Now it's getting silly....
I just downloaded updated sound drivers. While doing the install i got a 'fatal exception error' and it was telling me i would need to run Windows Setup again to solve the problem. I hit 'Enter' to take the blue screen away whereby i went back to desktop and the install clicked up saying it was completed and to reboot. So what happens when i reboot...
Yup, BK now works! This should have had nothing to do with the game, MW4 installed and works okay with the old sound drivers. I think i need a lie down.
At least it now works

p.s still to test my theory with the X and Z axis tho, fingers crossed.

I think i'd have been better feeding coolant to the PC Crick
The throttle on the j/s still controls the speed of the mech, cant get away from that somehow but at least i was able to maneuvre it slightly better than before. Im thinking of trying the joystick out again, but obviously making sure its configured properly.
Anyone know what the X and Z axis on the j/s is? I assume one is the stick and the other is the rudder. Or maybe one of the is the Hat switch perhaps? If i can config it so torso movement is controlled by the Hat i think i could get quite in to that. What do you all find is best for controlling torso movement? Any ideas on a decent j/s config would be appreciated

 this is just a suggestion.. how hard is it to unplug the joystick from you computer? This is what i do.. i use my j/s for certain games as well, however i too can not get used to using it in MW. So, I unplug it when im know im gonna play mw, then plug it back in if i need it for some other game. Yes this sounds like a lot of work, but it eliminates the quirks that the j/s causes in the game. If you go ahead and install the drivers for your j/s then just unplug it, when you plug it back in windoz should automatically turn it on. just a thought.

Thx Stache, i did actually try this mate which only made things worse hehe. Its not a USB j/s so it plugs in to my soundcard but when i tried what you suggestedd a few days ago, it was at this point i formatted my HD as my mouse wouldnt work in the main menu.
On a side note, played a few games last night in 151st server and done not too bad considering, so i cant really complain now.
Thanks again Stache!

Glas,
Prolly the reason it worked when youn updated your sound drivers is that there was an updated gameport driver in that package as well...
I have a HOTAS setup, along with a rudder pedal set so I can't help much with the stick. Before I got this I have a M$ Sidewinder Force Feedback and it had a twist funtion on the stick for torso...I was better at that than the rudder pedals.
I am thinking about trying my Saitek GM2 Gameimg device with mechy, maybe I will have better luck. I use it for all the tactical shooters I play.
