TD's Tips fer Winders XP Pro Happiness (most of these apply to ANY version of Winders):
1. Don't run XP Pro as an Administrator. If Limited User status is insufficient, and it is, create a Power User account.
2. Keep yer AV program up to date. I use Norton AV.
3. Get a real firewall. I like Sygate. It not only catches stuff trying to get in, it catches stuff trying to get out.
4. Set Outlook Express to send and receive PLAIN TEXT ONLY messages - it ain't pretty, but it's much more secure. Don't use the Preview Pane, cuz that's just begging for trouble. Set OE to remove access to attachments.
5. Get a real cookie manager, like Cookie Pal. Cookies are everywhere nowadays: in email, Windows Media Player, even Mercs.
6. Run Ad-Aware once a week, or immediately after any sort of update/upgrade or installation of anything remotely connected to MS.
7. Disable any unnecessary Services.
8. Install Linux.
